This certainly ranks up there (may even be the best). Wales was not as strong though. 98 Iran vs. USA may still be our best? Either way this was HUGE.

There is a 40 minute spell versus Yugoslavia in World Cup 1998 where we were excellent, but this was the most consistently good performance.

Honorable mentions - Iran Mexico 1st half 2006, Iran-Argentina 2nd half 2014, Iran Portugal 2nd hafl 2018.

I think given the mental side of things, off the pitch, the fact they played this well makes it for sure the best performance.

The amount of character shown to put this in after the days they lived after England cannot be overstated.

Yeah, in World Cup matches.

Iran vs USA (1998) and Iran vs Wales (2022) would be perhaps the greatest matches.

Followed by Iran vs Scotland (1978), Iran vs Angola (2006).

In those four matches, Team Melli was full on attacking.

Iran vs Argentina (2014), Iran vs Portugal (2018) were really exciting games too but Argentina and Portugal had the upper hand.

Worst game ever was Iran vs England (2022).

i've been watching TM since world cup 1998. this was the most satisfying performance and most well-deserved win. the release from all the pressure, hatred, drama, unfair bullying of this team....and for roozbeh, who'd been smeared for "bowing" to raisi (turned out to be camera manipulation) to be the one to SCORE in the 98th minute...

and all this after a humiliating 6-2 defeat.

We still need better possession and better passes. We had the better chances but they connected more passes, were more accurate with them, and held on to the ball better. If we can up those 3 things, this team is an actual contender.

Better possession against teams like England and Wales? What TM did in this match was nothing short of phenomenal. Let's be real. We are not a world powerhouse!
