Ramin was playing in obscurity in the Qatar 2nd division recently. For CQ to bring him back, bench our 2nd best legionnaire, start Ramin, and for Ramin to put in a performance like that is simply poetic.

So happy for Ramin, returning to TM and justifying it all around. Finally saw the replay of the offsides goal. Had he passed it to Taremi instead of back to Azmoun the outcome definitely would've been different. I didn't realize how wide open Taremi was to go clear on goal had Gholi looked left for half a second. Either way WHAT A DAY.

I feel that each player today had a deep anger and sadness from the homeland that was transformed into a magnificent display of football performance.

This morning I felt like I was watching Iran play similar to Chelsea or Arsenal - this team has all the other groups secretly praying they will not face these angry and focused players in any round.

Their energy will place these players in a position of power and influence for sparking our people to keep fighting the same way they are fighting. No player should ever be this angry and terrified from their own government to play 90 minutes of football. Let’s hope we keep moving forward.

I was in tears for most of the 2nd half. I was so proud of our team and the effort. So happy for our people and friends on this forum!

This game felt almost as intense as Iran-U.S match in 1998. Speaking of emotions, the Telemindo play-by-play announcer was immensely ecstatic after Iran scored the first goal. So were the color commentators, one of whom ( a woman) shouted "gol !" after Cheshmi put the ball in the net. At Fox Sports, though, it was a different story, as panel members were hoping for a draw (preferably 0-0). They seemed stunned after the game but tried to keep their composure. Donovan (whom I like) and Lalas said that it would come down to the Iran game, implying the job should be easily taken care of by the U.S. In other words, they thought a win over Iran was a foregone conclusion.
