I think a lot of you guys on here are completely missing the point. It’s not about whether you personally agree with the flag or not, it’s the fact they altered the flag, which is 100% against the Fifa rules.

I bet if Iran did the same thing to the USA flag during the height of the BLM movement we’d be punished, no question about it. It’s not an equivalent analogy, but the point is there being a movement, and another nation decides to change that flag under that pretext.

At the end of the day, it is the flag of current day Iran, it’s on the uniforms, many team melli supporters sport it, our players wrapped themselves in it when we beat Iraq to qualify (yes, it was before the protests, but we’ve had countless tragedies in the past that have gone unreported).
