“We will pay for Queiroz or Zidane if you want” Iran’s Sports Minister claims!

    News

    06/09/2022

In a press conference held earlier on, the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Iranian government reiterated his support for any action by the Leaders of the FFIRI. When asked about his opinion on the current ambiguity and turbulent status of the Head Coach of Team Melli on the brink of competing in the FIFA World Cup 2022, Hamid Sajjadi has this to say: “I told Majdi that if you hire Queiroz, we will pay for it. Emphasizing that we hope that any decision made about the national team’s bench will be wise, technical, and proper, Sajjadi continued: “I told Majdi that anyone, including domestic coaches that you think of recruiting as the head coach of Team Melli will be welcomed, I even said that if you want to bring Queiroz back, we will pay the bills and wages, and I said that if you want to bring Zidane, do the necessary formalities and you will not have to worry about the financial issues related to the head coach of the Iranian national football team.” Sajjadi in response to the question of what is the position of the Ministry of Sports regarding the presence of Queiroz on the bench of the national team? He stated: “We will not interfere in the technical issues of any federation (…), including the football federation, and we also announced to the former head of the football federation that we will support whatever decision you make, The federation is responsible to make a decision in this regard and we simply stand by the decision it makes. I must say that no consultation has been made with the Ministry of Sports and Youth about the names of the future coach.” In response to another question about the fact that the member of the parliament has recently announced that we will impeach the minister of sports, Sajjadi said: “A question was raised by one of the members of the parliament about the expulsion of both Esteghlal and Persepolis from the AFC Champions League, and I will answer in this regard. We announce to all that the suspension of Esteghlal and Persepolis will remain until December. Regarding the latest status of the two most popular teams in the country, continued absence from the AFC Champions League due to their status as non-NGO clubs, he said: “the decision-makers in the Asian Football Federation remain the same and that is the continued suspension, but it will be removed by December. We must prepare our documents. Fortunately, good issues are raised and we hope Esteghlal and Persepolis prove their professional status to the Asian Football Confederation.” Once again the Minister confirmed the chaotic status of Iranian football where the government acts like the big brother. By electing Mehdi Taj a career government civil servant, the regime once again strengthens its grip on the policies of the FFIRI. The government that payrolls the football federation always claims that it does not interfere but the reality is completely different. Nothing of significance passes in the FFIRI without the nod from the Ministry of Youth and sports, which bankrolls this federation. The fact that Esteghlal and Perspolis are suspended is due to the structure of the club which does not meet the professional standards set by the AFC and FIFA. Esteghlal and Perspolis are the properties of the Iranian government since the revolution. There is no independent setup like other professional clubs in which the board members of both clubs and chairman are hand-picked by the Ministry rather than a general assembly. As for the Team Melli bench situation, Sajjadi’s statement lacks authenticity and real truth. His maneuvering skills by playing innocence are all channeled towards the prevention of FIFA as the result of Government intervention. His public statements aim to disguise the iron grip control of the government on football at all levels from clubs to the federation. Control of football affairs is a regime Policy and a national security issue that considers this sport, in particular, a strong tool that can turn the masses against it.

We shouldn't even joke about someone like Zidane coaching TM.

Even if Iran itself was a perfect nation, he is not a teacher manager - his skill is handling big egos.
He is built for big teams made up of superstars. It's why he did so well in Real Madrid - because everyone respects him and he knows how to motivate/discipline.

Personally, I would love first to see what Jahanbakhsh has to say about England game, he was claiming that the team was preoccupied with everything but English team (considering everything else that is going on right now). So you and I may not be aware of what occurred behind closed doors but certainly, IFF is well aware if not even behind the drama or being part of it, therefore why should we even waste money or time when the problem is not TM or its players but everything else surrounding it? (However, I do find a contradiction with Jahanbakhsh' statement and that is yes we were lost before England but then played great against Wales and then lost again vs US. Didn't even try much....so not sure how to read his claim)

Secondly, I want a coach that transforms both TM and all the youth teams. Now you guys are tired of CQ? fine with me but hope to find a replacement that builds on his work and transforms across the board.

who ever don't understand chaos was reason
We didn't advance from our group
Really don't understand tm in detail.
If half of stories regarding what was going on in tm camp is true
we should of lost all 3 matches with big margin.

Expert Ghasempour hits out at FFIRI over delay in coach’s appointment
              1. Sports

              January 10, 2023 - 19:21
TEHRAN - Ebrahim Gahsempour, a member of the Iran Football Federation’s technical committee, criticized the federation over delay in appointment of senior and U23 Iran national teams head coaches.

Team Melli are without a head coach after the 2022 World Cup. Carlos Queiroz’s contract with the Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran (FFIRI) is over, and his replacement is yet to be appointed.

The same, even worse, situation is for the U23 national team known as Omid Team.

Less than nine months into the 2024 AFC U23 Asian Cup qualification, which will act as the AFC qualifiers for the 2024 Paris Olympics men's football games, the U23 Iran national team are yet to know their head coach.

“It’s not a new thing in Iranian football,” Ebrahim Ghasempour said in his exclusive interview with Tehran Times.

“The football federation officials have always performed poorly, especially in the junior teams such as the U23 team, and it has always been a big problem in Iranian football, and it still continues to be.

“I have no idea why the federation is losing time and don’t decide in this regard. It’s not a complicated process. They need to select some candidates, check their records and conditions and finally choose the best one. It should be decided in a technical committee or by consulting with some football experts,” Ghasempour added.

Mehdi Mahdavikia resigned from his post as head coach of the U23 team in early October. Under the guidance of Mahdavikia, Iran showed a poor performance in the 2022 AFC U23 Asian Cup and failed to qualify for the next stage.

“Mahdavikia was a great coach for the U23 team. Yes, he couldn’t get good results in U23 Asian Cup, but his side had some problems then. He explained the problems in a football federation’s technical committee meeting. In my opinion, his reasons were quite convincing, and he was right. But unfortunately, the FFIRI parted ways with him,” said the former player of the Iran national team.

When asked if he is still a member of the technical committee of the Football Federation or not, Ghasempour said: “No, but the federation has not officially stopped cooperating with us. Still, practically there has been no contact with us for a long time, and this, in my opinion, means the end of the cooperation,” he concluded

Also, PGL is a different animal than other places. Not an easy place to ride into the sunset with a championship as HC.

He's the best we can ask for, along with CQ
He's not the best we can ask for lol. He has signed all these players and Sepahan still plays like shit.
Compare Sepahan under Ghalenoei with the current team and it's night and day difference.

You're the one not being serious. He's not been impressive at all.

I disagree, it was never chaos alone! this time it was much more than that, the pressure from the regime and threats cannot be described as chaos. it was intimidation (plus pressure from people's side, basically players were caught in the middle)..... and things are starting to leak out now.

Example, sure sko wasnt the best but definately not the worst. He had poor peopleskillz and lost the team lockerroom and was involved in planning and holding disaster camp in qatar.

Got rightfully fired aswell for loosing team. But the root of the problem was IFF. Poor planning and no planned backup for canada cancelation. Poor management of TM prior and after that aswell and poor and late decisions made the situation possible.

Tm being forced to change coach right before WC was needed and bad by skocic, but the situation rooted in IFF musmanagement as usual. if we would have had less friction around iff and TM, better planning, and less powerfights, the situation wouldnt even happened. Sko wouldnt have to handle that situation as it wouldnt be that infected and problematic.

We should be grateful CQ stepped in, imagine going there with a replacement from ipl instead, then we wouldnt even have the wales game to remember I tell you that.

Appreciate CQ for what he did, and crItisize for his mistakes, appreciate Sko for what he did and bash hIm for his shortcomings and mismanagent. But admit its IFF thats the real problem.

WIth the logic of the quoted post, we maybe shouldnt get a new coach at all since nobody can make this team champions if not for miracles, and ball bouncing right. Remember its AFC its allready rigged against us. Then IFF riggs it to a level its a shitstorm of mismanagement. CQ give us THE BEST CHANCE TO BE CHAMPIONS, or to make round 16 at wc in Qatar during the circumstances created originallt from IFF. So IFF makes it almost iimpossible. We qualified early and didnt need to end up in the situations that we did. In the end it greatly impacted our wc.

And now we have Taj, great upgrade to last clown Majedi. But still IFF lacks the fundamental organization and structure to be called a proffessional organization.
Iranian federation has it's problems no doubt. But to use that as a an excuse to defend CQ performance is just laughable.
And why bring up Skocic? Nobody cares about that guy.

The federation had problems when we had other coaches too.
The rest of the coaches had one chance and this guy had 5 chances but still failed.

Now we should be grateful CQ fucked up another major tournament? The Wales game doesn't mean anything as we didn't qualify. It's either R16 or disaster, no in between.

How many more failures is needed for you guys to open your eyes and see that CQ is not the saviour of our football?
The way you're praising him, not even Manchester United praised Sir Alex.

Look, Portugal fired Santos after he took them to their first QF in 16 years. It still wasn't enough, they didn't even care he won them their first euros in 2016.

Why? Because they aim high. He couldn't deliver and he's out. That's the way to go.

Due to facts 1 to 23 they have best players, just very deep team...so it's not fair to ask morais
to become champ this year against dominating pp team.
as long as he average 2 pt a game
And finish with around 60 pt that's all
                        U can ask of him.
Sepahan doesn't play good at all.
