This is because we had a joke of a group. The worst Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and UAE teams to date we were fortunate enough to play against. I don't think people realize how lucky we got. When it came to a strong Korea side, we lost 2-0. So rather not risk having to worry about Russia too when we have enough competition

With AFC having 8 direct spots in WC 2026, six teams will go directly from the third round of qualifications, and we can only be put in the group with one of the likes of Japan, Australia, Korea, and Saudi- with two teams directly qualifying from each of the three groups. Then in the next round the third and fourth place teams fight for the other two direct spots. Go check the format.

We will 100% qualify for the next World Cup, and also make it to the Round of 32 , as the spread of the teams will mean easier competition. Our goal will still be to make it to the final 16.

I agree. The second round of the AFC WCQ is absolute bogus. There's nine groups of four teams, with the top two from each group qualifying to the third round... Basically almost in every group the teams from the top two pots will qualify for the next round. So Iran or Japan playing Malaysia or India is really a joke, but we gotta remember that big European teams also play Moldova, Estonia, and Gibraltar. It's up to the incompetent Iranian federation to set up friendlies, and get us invited to Copa America (which we would do very well in). But what can you expect from a bunch of over-glorified baboons?

What I think makes the most sense would be to have the top 8 Asian teams pre-seeded in the third round, and have the rest fighting for the other 10 spots. But then that would decrease our games. At least in the current format we can have practice matches for our team to build better offensive cohesiveness, with the ability to play open and forward, without worries. Imagine you take those games out of our schedule, it would be a disaster trying to now use that date to maybe play a friendly against a same caliber team like Palestine or Madagascar.

I agree with your proposal and to fill the calendar, either find friendlies (which is impossible) or Fifa find us mandatory friendlies (fifa spoke about fifa world series 2 weeks ago) or do a super league where we would play against other top asian teams

Actually, Korea didn't lose any points against Iraq. Korea tied Iraq 0-0 at home and beat Iraq 0-3 at an away game. Korea lost just once, which was against UAE at an away game.

Not getting three points from a match is losing points. With a draw, you're losing two points.
