Amazing result for Qatar and CQ. This is unquestionably the group of death of the tournament and he found a way to advance. Good for them….without their 6-7 most important players too.

QF seems very doable for CQ and qatar. They will likely face Panama (group winner TBD).

The guy changed our football. Simple as that - Iran's soil was completely poisoned before he took over, and he built something as best as is possible within IR. Wish him the best

On another note, Guadeloupe! WTF! Where did these guys come from

Mexico is always Mexico, great result against a classic world class team. Without their key players, CQ arrived and fresh the squad. Impressive group stage even Mexico striker Gimenez deserved a clear red card. Hope for the best in Quarter Final

I think you can speak of change if:
                  1. He structurally changed the state of our football, meaning even after he left, changes are in place (the untangible stuff)
                  2. He achieved tangible results that were unimaginable prior to his term

                  You could question both.

At the Risk of reigniting this dead conversation:

                    1) Qualifying to consecutive world cups was an unimaginable goal prior to CQs term. Skocic got us to 2022 but CQ got us to 2014 and 2018. Now our expectations are raised from prior.
                    2) Getting a clean sheet in a world cup was an unimaginable result, of which he got 3.
                    3) Beating a European team and an African team in the world cup was an unimaginable result prior to their term as it had not been done.
                    4) Tying the European champions (Portugal) was an unimaginable result prior to the term.

This doesnt mean he had no faults. He had his weaknesses also that bit us at bad times.

As for structurally changing the state of our football, anyone should rethink if thats the responsibility of a head coach of a NT. Its such a toxic ethos Iranians have of thinking one person should be responsible for all of a system and succeed or die on that hill.

Our footballs state is the sole responsibility of youth programs, the league, players produced, and IFF. Since in all these positions you have several inbred hezbollahis picking up free checks and not lifting a finger to improve things we are likely to stay stagnant.

About 10-15 years ago all the US produced besides a couple were just runners, now they have Dest, Turner, Pulisic, Reyna, Weah, Musah, McKennie, Adams, Richards etc playing in the top leagues and still in their low to mid 20s(good for at least 8-9 more years) with new talents funneling in.

Meanwhile in Iran we just wait for good players to show up and pray they stay healthy, never have depth to the team and depend on individual brilliance.

Even if USFF was filled with passionate American dads who like to watch football I would have more confidence in them going to new heights than our IFF and Iran because they actually care about outcomes. One coach is minimal to change anything.

That was four years ago, within Asia, when they had a mature, balanced and spry side

CQ broke them out of Asian boundaries with a very young team and just scored a win against a number 14 team in the world. In a very high profile game in the US. That is mad impressive and I think trumps their previous results

This was a huge result. I live in the US and been to a number of Mexico games here. Even for friendlies the games are always sold out. I looked at the final which is at SOFI stadium in Los Angeles and will be hosting some WC games in 2026 and it was at like 5% sold for the final. However if Mexico makes it there tickets will skyrocket in a full stadium. Last night CQ did a fantastic job with a half ass Qatari team taking down Mexico in front of a full stadium. Mexico always plays with heart and have a huge fan following as you saw in the sold out stadium last night. This was a fantastic result and lets be honest that Qatar had bad luck in the first two games getting scored on in the 97th min. So CQ is doing something right.

Best of luck to him and Qatar. I don't think any of us ever cared for Qatar and always wanted these Arab teams to lose and get destroyed. However what CQ gave us will always be appreciated and respect and loyalty goes both ways. I personally have supported (Colombia, Egypt, and now Qatar) he is coaching and will support any team he coaches unless they play against Iran. Job well done and respect given!

As I always said: we will miss Carlos Queiroz and everything after that will be a dark time in Iranian football.
"This is a totalitarian system whose presence people feel in their blood and in their flesh on a daily basis. And it’s one that does not grant freedoms of any kind, or accommodate people’s demands in any way. What is increasingly clear is that there is clear demand for change in the regime. What the people want is regime change, and no return to the past. There is a very real possibility of regime change." - Nasrin Sotoudeh

I have seem some in person. If I remember right I was at a Mexico/Ecuador game and something happened by the Ecuadorians (Friendly game). The Mexican fans threw so much stuff down towards the Ecuador bench and all the fans sitting in between got hit with food and drinks and it was pretty ugly. Very rough crowd to be in. In Azteca Mexico they are known to even pee and put it in bags and throw it on American fans. This is not the case when they go to WC as only those with money and calmer travel generally. However here in the US and Mexico they are knows for some very rough crowds.

Great result by CQ and Qatar?? I think not. It was a total Shitte show of a game. Mexico had nearly 80% possession and were just unlucky banging one in. The Arabs were doing their classic time wasting. Bet you guys whine against that when they play us and you applaud it against others?! I appreciate all that CQ did for our soccer, but come on people, let it go. Him moving on is a blessing for us, we need a change. Some of you worship the ground this guy walks on, I would want nothing to do with that "win" last night. Granted, he's got NO PLAYERS playing outside of Qatar on that team, but still...
