As much as others like to clown on him, I have a soft spot for him. I don't consider his WC 2022 tenure seriously because he never got a chance to implement his discipline and tactics on the players.

Wouldn't make a difference. A coach like CQ needs two things to succeed: time and risk.

He had tons of time with us and knew everyone like the back of his hand, and he also had years to implement his tactics which culminated in 2018. Risk because we were considered bad enough back then that he was allowed to lose to a team like SK or Turkey and learn from his mistakes without everyone calling for him to be fired immediately. Nowadays we take our TM for granted now that its riding on CQs legacy players that he cultivated. In a few years time when Taremi, Azmoun, Ghoddos retire is when our TM is gonna drop to pot 2 in Asia . Back to the days of losing to arab teams like Iraq and Syria

Not only that, he had the team for at least 4 years before WC2018. I have no doubt if he stayed on, we would’ve gotten to the 2nd round in 2022.

CQ laid down the foundation after WC2014 and we’re still reaping the benefits of his players.
