People are forgetting the early days of Wiltits.
EVen against Bahrain, the match we lost, we had so many attacking chances, but the moment our defense was tested, we crumbled.

With that said, I was expecting much worse than what I saw today.
jury still out. I will give GN 5 matches before judging him.

"footballe hoojome" Oh lord, phrases like these from GN get me worried. The point is not to play attacking or defensive football, the point is to adapt to your opponents and put forward a cohesive gameplan to WIN. Attractive football doesn't always translate to winning.

We know we will do fine against mid tier Asian sides. What matters is when we face serious challengers like Australia, Japan, Saudi and Korea. That is the ultimate test any TM coach needs to prepare for otherwise everything else is pointless.

For GN and CQ, Japan and Korea were their achilles heel. Let's hope GN can rise to the occasion and actually win against these top Asian teams.

This is why we had such high hopes for Sanchez - because he was the only candidate with a tried and trued record of winning against top tier Asian sides with an above average Qatar team.

To win against a Japan, Korea, or Australia in a HIGH stakes game, you need extremely meticulous planning, tactical blueprint, and highly intensive scouting of the other team. Does he have that type of attention to detail, preparedness, and dedication to bring to the table when it matters at that stage? It seems to me like he's an old school type, just lace up the boots and play mentality, when we need something far more modern and detail oriented.

I support him, but jury is still out whether we get any meaningful results.

I liked our lineup for this match. It was also impressive to see us press high and create some chances. Let's see how GN can transform this team. Lets not forget when we lost to Korea in 2007 Asian cup we had the better chances and were eliminated in penalties. In order for us to be successful we need to increase our speed in our build up play.

General teams all of them always play beautiful
football.his teams play position football and BEGHOLEH GADEMIA "khaymeh mizanan " in the opponents field. for the old timers that remember
1980s tm it remined me of that today,AZ Zamin o asemoon toop mirikhtan. a Only players can hang with those stars of the 80s are biravand and medi, rest of the current persian players legioneers included wouldn't even make the 1980s tm roster.
also I like the way general is building this team.
Instead of building team with bunch Europeans bench warmers and inserting pgl players, he is building the teaM with pgl players and inserting legioneers ,THATS GREAT POOST ANDAKHTAN.
also pgl stars are all battle ready and play week in and week out, that's what we need BATTLE READY PLAYERs who play constant soccer during the year and are in playing shape.DAYS OF LEGIONEERS coming to tm camp to rest for their club teams and eat bad diet food are over. Best 11 in practice play now regardless of names.THERe IS NEW GENERALL IN TOWN "aliiiiii".

This was the weakest russian team i've ever seen. Its like we were playing some 3rd level asian team like thailand, kuwait, vietnam etc... They didn't press, hardly any consecutive passes, 0 tactic (like was was their tactics????), really poor deffending , 0 chemistry ...... I can go all day long. They will probably lose against iraq and people will start taking the mic out of Ghalenoi.

Our MD was a mess. We are lacking a good finisher, I hate to say it but sardar was really missed in this game.

              Gholizade was poor.
Saeed Ezza was poor (he shouldn't be invited anymore).
              Moghanloo was piss poor
              Taremi was below average
Its very worrying that Top 2 IPL top goalscorers can't finish some simple balls.

              Impressed by Zakipoor
              Hosseinzade
              looked promising

I really wanted to see aghasi get some playing time. Sadly hosseinzadeh was injured, otherwise i feel like he would've scored.

We need to have some decent friendly games against top quality teams. Our DF line did not get tested in this game . Maybe a game against Uzbekistan, Oman, South korea, Japan or even Qatar would tell us where we at.

I want to see this lineup in AC:

Beiranvand, M.Hosseini, PAG, Ramin, Zakipour, Mehri, Cheshmi, Sayyadmanesh, Mohebbi, Taremi, Azmoun.
                Esteghlal 💙💙

I think you’re overreacting my friend.

The style today was offensive, which we haven’t played in a long time. With the players we have, it suits us better to play offensive.

We need to play like this in front of the big boys in Asia if we want to win the AC.

The usual cautious play has cost us countless important games in the past. The losses to USA, Iraq, Japan, S.Korea (2007,2011) etc was all because of cautious play.

Yes the General was our coach in 2007 but it was 16 years ago and i hope he has learned his lesson.

                  Esteghlal 💙💙

It doesn’t. It will work against S.Korea, Japan, Saudi & Australia too.

We just need to have the guts to play this way in elimination games when it matters. This strategy is our best chance of winning the AC-title.

Cheshmi doesn’t belong to TM. I know he’s probably having one of his best seasons and he scored that goal in the World Cup but he’s not good at all IMO. We have so many better options then him.

He’s another player after that WC-goal. His postioning and passing is fantastic.

He’s exactly what we need to continue playing offensive while at the same time keep our defense strong.

I see him as a liability and a waste of a spot in the midfield. He is not consistent enough.

Well we see it differently then. I see him as vital to keep our defense compact while we play this offensive.

This offensive style will only work with players like Cheshmi keeping our defense safe.

Cheshmi off the bench is good. He be fresh off the bench to deal with other team tired players. cheshmi is slow but perfect when he is fresh and other team players are tired. Definitely make the tm roster but not as starter.

Remember this was the Generals first game in charge, with only a couple of training sessions. We will get much better in a couple of games.

We need to give him the same treatment as previous coaches. I remember the previous coaches first games, everyone screaming ”give them time”. The same applies to the General.

One negative aspect of the game i saw today was between min 60-85. We seemed to have run out of gas. Then after min 85 we had one last push. I hope the General has a plan to work on our fitness so our players can keep up the intensity for 120 min if needed.

Japan, Saudi, Australia & S.Korea will punish us if we run out of gas after 60 min. However, if we can keep up the intensity during the whole game, they won’t stand a chance.
