How do they interfere with play if he's the only one that actually played the ball, and he wasn't conclusively in an offside position? If there was VAR in Iran, it should not be expected to intervene here.

The state of affairs is dire, that is true. But it was dire before GN. GN is not the cause nor the symptom, he’s simply a diagnostic indication of the disease (IR, IFF, no money to pay coaches, no international standing to attract any coaches, no friendlies othr than other pariah states, women as second class fans and players, etc).

for GN to pull off a tie and win with a rag tag group of players is what we could expect out of any Demi god coach in a few weeks after signing. if we were lucky to get him.

I think it’s the fact this is his 2nd stint as TM coach, and his first one was quite awful.

If this was a fresh new coach, then I wouldn’t be too worried. But his tactics and selection so far have shown a reversion to iranian football before CQ, which was quite bad.

Stop with all the negativity. GN is a great leader. He has had ONE WEEK with the team. In that one week he:

- Took the players to an orphanage to be in touch with the people
- Brought the women team to meet the men in training, all took a great photo together. This says a lot about him
- Tied a decent Russia team that just went on to beat Iraq 2-0, an Iraq that just won the Persian Gulf Cup which isn't a small feat
- Beat Kenya with one of the top strikers playing in club Asian football, one of the highest paid as well
- We also scored two set pieces, which we haven't in ages especially under Skocic

ALL THIS IN ONE WEEK. So chill on the negativity and try to think of the benefits. There is still a lot to grow on. The general has not done bad in his first week in office. Give him a chance.

They played a very compact and very energetic packed defense with plenty of pressure on the ball. Clearly going over the top with a weak goalie was a good decision. We do need bigger smarter stronger faster guys playing in the center of our defense and I do not mean the guys playing at the WC. CQ's solution was to hold everyone back to cover this huge problem. I am sure this guy will do the same thing against better teams. We basically have a few good players on the front line and the rest of the team sucks. It sucked under CQ and it will continue to suck until we find some better replacements.

Let’s keep it simple for now….you talk of a hat trick of World Cup failures….Iran hadn’t even qualified for back to back WCs, EVER before CQ showed up yet you talk about going to 3 WCs and not getting desirable results (by whatever definition you have) as if we were going to world cups every cycle before him.

i can accept lots of criticisms of CQ, I personally wanted to move on from him too….but to look back at what he did for us and not acknowledge how he moved the ball forward for us and is on another caliber compared to charlatans like ghalenoie who have made a living off of being in an incompetent system in an incompetent country then idk what to tell you.

We had been in the WC & failed to make it to R16 before CQ. Did he manage to change that? NO

A self proclaimed top 10 coach took us nowhere despite getting 5 chances to do that. He got more chances than anyone else in our football history.
