Absolutely! They are so far ahead of us in every respect. Their football just represents that. They play so beautifully, I am mesmerized. Even in these horrid conditions. Realize also how their players don't slip while ours go flying all over the place? They always keep their composure.

They also have fantastic jerseys. I am thinking of buying one haha.

The number 18 on our team is real good though. As is Gholizadeh.

I was in the stadium for some of the 1974 Asian games in Tehran where we won the championship and Japan were absolute Zero.

        Look at them now.

The world has moved forward, Iran has moved backwards.

From a football perspective, they always make the right passes and open things up for themselves. The goals they scored were seamless.
The thing is they are the only country with SK to play like that in a world. It takes them quite far for asian standards but they have a big ceiling in world stage (R16 of wc).

Our style of play isn't like that as we are a nation of dribble, gol kuchik.
Anyways, we are very bad to take good things from other. We generally take nothing or the worst of other countries.

For football, we didn't take anything about the pass and collective play we witness first hand from Japan and SK, we didn't take they fight to become euro legionnaire, we don't take the speed we witness from England, USA (or EPL shown big time in Iran). We are a country idolizing Messi/CR7 and Real/barca. As it fits our individualism, so we copy paste their dribble and also a poor version of the tiki taka. The last thing is what makes IPL more watchable than before.

For our country as a whole, we took individualism, superficialism and materialism from the USA instead of freedom, desire to improve, we took backward, outdated and ugly (name/language) things from the arab world while some of their country are doing some wonders at the world stage.
We took inferior complex towards the west and the plastic surgery cancer from the east Asian countries like China, japan, sk while not looking at their development and civilized society, we look at fancy things from Europe while ignoring their organization, fight for ecology and against corruption

This team can’t score to save its life.

              180 minutes and zero goals

Thank god we made the WC in November. Regardless of the results we get, it should help our football in the long run.

I think you guys are being way too harsh.

There's definitely potential there. I don't think this team will make far in the world cup, but they also won't get embarrassed. Probably finishing third in their group.

Also one bad match in shitty conditions doesn't define the team.

Give them some time (and conditioning training) and these boy will do well.

Nima, Sadeghi, Gholizadeh and Taheri all have potential. Hopefully they are nurtured properly in their club football.

I think the main glaring weakness in this age are the CBs.

                      Well deserved win by Japan.
They’re an excellent team who consistently play well and obviously have a very good development system for decades now.

Having said that, these are 16 year old kids. A lot of work needs to still take place. Some of these kids may end up being TM stars, others might disappear.

And there are people criticizing the coach. He’s not perfect, but he’s not an illiterate fool. The man has the FA coaching badges, can actually answer questions in English, and seems like a relatively professional person.

I don’t know what else people want at this level.

They're 16 year olds who celebrated qualifying for the World Cup, not necessarily beating Yemen.
Let's give the kids a break.

I would also say the "we won the world cup by qualifying" celebrations need to end also. For our junior teams and national teams. Lets look at Taremi and use him as an example.

as I said before the winner of this game is the winner of this tournament. congrats to japan, well deserved. Realistically japan should be ranked in World Top 10, and above most european teams
