i think that your logic is outdated, where have you been under a rock the past 10 years haven’t you seen all the players who are switching and playing for different countries all the time look, samon ghoddos , he played for the Swedish national team after he couldn’t make it there he played for TM, Ashkan dejegah played for the German under 21 Gucci he played for the Dutch youth team as well, all these players if they were wanted, by their respected national would have not played for TM …

FYI …..havzabi just went to Qatar Al sadd would not be surprised if we lose him now cause he ain’t Cap tied to us…

      Let's put it another way...

Who here lives in, pays taxes in, and contributes to society at large in Iran?

Who here lives in another country and contributes to where they reside?

Our football players have the same right to emigration as we do...they would just be joining the 4-5 million Iranian diaspora...most of whom are not political refugees and live elsewhere because they seek freedom.

Our best referee will be representing Australia after being pushed out of IFF.

We have star wrestlers representing other countries.

We have astronauts representing other countries.

If the best and the brightest brains have and are leaving, why not the best footballers?

If IRI cared about Iranians, it would have done something about the Brain Drain rather than a handful of footballers (in which the country did not even invest)

How much would it take for you to play for another country's national team?

I went to Sharif University. I'm a superior genetic mutation, an improvement on the existing mediocre stock.

When Amin Hazbavi gets invited to the Qatar national team, I will answer that question for you

So you have a conditional price. I don't have one as no amount of money would want me to put on another country's jersey.

This isn’t about you , or me , this is about a kid who is a generational talent for us , someone who could probably play in Team Melli for the , next 15 years , a kid who has the talent , that could take him to the top of football, so stop changing the subject , we don’t produce that many players and the ones we produce we need to make sure they at least play for us…

to me it is suspicious, a 19yr kid would reject European offers , and sign a 5 year deal with a Qatar team …

Actually to me it was exactly about you and me. I now have the answer from both of us to the hypothetical offer to wear another country's jersey.

These fields are different because they are in advancement and obviously opportunity is appreciated in STEM to work on higher levels.

International football is about representing your country. I was born in the United States, raised in an American kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school. College and graduate school. For football, I followed TM all along those years as my parents and family is from there. My mindset is there, everything about me is from there.

I never once imagined myself playing for the US team with Pulisic etc. If GN called me to get on the plane for the AC 2023 I'd take the first flight there even if the US offered me a nice house and car etc.

That is you, but there are many footballers (and other athletes) who choose to play for another country for advancement. How many famous Brazilian players go elsewhere because they will not have a chance to play for their national teams?

Pepe? Diego Costa? Gonzalo Higuain? Alfonso Davis? Many, many more examples.

It is not STEM...but it is for advancement...in life, professionally, personally, family related, etc

In case of Iranians, there is another strong incentive and that is the same reason why your parents emigrated.

That's great for them. We are not Brazil are we? There is no financial incentive for the players you mentioned. Its more of representation. I supported that Iranian player playing for India because he had mixed ancestry and had no chance breaking our midfield. No problem. If Diego Costa wanted to play for Qatar I would have a bigger problem with it because I know no one in his ancestry himself or his kids ever knew it existed.

If tomorrow IR spends all of our peoples money on bringing Florian Wirtz of Leverkusen and Alejandro Garnacho of Manchester United to Iran would you be for it?

Sorry I don't get your point...Diego Costa has no Spanish heritage and no one batted an eye when he played for Spain.

When a government exports our Nobel prize winner, our Fields prize winner, our international Chess Grandmaster (and many many more amazing people) so what if Hazbavi goes and plays for Qatar.

So you would play for qatar if you had the opportunity to do so?

Of course!!! At my prime (and that amounts to nothing), I would have played for Tuvalu if that meant I would be counted as an international! And yes, I would have played against Iran and played hard too. That is sports.

Now I would not have played for Saudi but Qatar, of course!

I know Qatari people who are of Iranian descent and speak beautiful Persian. Same for Oman and Bahrain (though my Bahraini friends tell me their majority is of Iranian descent). Lots of Iranians in Iraq, Pakistan, Turkey etc...not to mention Azerbaijan who were all Iranians. Then there is Yemen and Saudi where Iranians have roots....then East Africa too...Kenya, Tanzania, Somalia...

Unfortunately I doubt I could make Tuvalu's D team...even at my prime...no Qatari would ever invite me to watch their team take a bus...much less play. :-)

No that's being a vatan foroush. Or hezbe'e bad.
Thankfully as you put it you couldn't make Tuvalu's D team let alone Iran's national team. Had you had the skills, you truly should not have been anywhere near a TM jersey with a mindset that can easily be bought for the right price.

I recognize your sentiment but I put it to you that you have a misunderstanding of what vatan is and what patriotism means.

Think hard about this...the whole of the Iranian national team was being disowned by a significant proportion of Iranian society. People were dancing in the streets celebrating the elimination. Who were the vatanforoosh? Those who played for the team of "The Islamic Republic"? Those who were dodging bullets and booing TM at the same time?

TM goes and visits a mass murderer (of their own compatriots) who is also the Iranian president....the only thing they bring up is their padash. Who is the vatanforoosh?

Just as every Iranian emigre contributes to their own society, so can a football player (or any sportsman) emmigrate and contribute to their new society.

If some ex-iranian defeats an Iranian in any sporting events, that is not vatanforooshy....that is playing a sport.

If Saman and Ashkan and Gucci played for Iran, it was only because they were not invited to their NTs before they accepted to play for Iran. They would not have been vatanfoosh for whatever choice they made.

Ozil and Gindugan and Podolski play for Germany....they are not vatanfoosh either. Turks and Poles are proud of them for being good enough to play for Germany.
