irandust picked Syria because he wanted to represent a dictator with a higher mass murder rate.
full disclosure: I don’t think athletes should be judged for the politics of the country they choose and vice versa.

Dahoud is a huge addition for Syria.
Irandust not so much.
I wasnt impressed with Syria to be honest.
Their plan was to park the bus but honestly our own teams laziness was the reason they got as far they did in the game. If we actually tried reaching players between the lines instead of useless crosses and dribbles we should have won comfortably.
With Dahoud, Syria may try to play more open as they finally have a strong distributor but some teams struggle with opening up

After this series of games on March 21 and March 26th we will get a realistic idea of what the possible pots will be in the next round of Asian qualifying.
There will be some high level friendlies as well during this window such as England-Brazil and France-Germany to give us a taste of how teams are looking halfway in the cycle.
Of note, the early stages of Concacaf qualifying will start this window as well. The losers of Anguilla- Turks and Caicos and US virgin Islands vs British Virgin Islands derby home and away will be the first teams eliminated from this world cup cycle.

Time to discuss some possible scenarios for the groups next round.
Group A
Qatar will win group. Kuwait has games vs India and Afghanistan left. India vs Qatar and Kuwait. Realistically India needs to beat Kuwait to advance.
Group B
Japan and Syria.
Group C
South Korea to top the group. China currently 2nd and play Thailand in China in June. If China beats Thailand they go through. If they tie, China have a better goal difference by 3 going into the last game against South Korea, while Thailand plays Singapore so it will be risky for China. I'll assume they survive it.
Group D
Oman to go through. Kyrgyzstan and Malaysia play a crucial game in Kyrgyzstan in June. If Kyrgyzstan can beat Malaysia they will go through. If they tie. Malaysia plays Chinese taipei on the last day while Kyrgyzstan plays Oman. Kyrgyzstan has a better goal difference by a margin of 8.
Group E
Iran and Uzbekistan
Group F
Iraq and Indonesia
Group G
Saudi will qualify. Jordan and Tajikistan are playing each other in June. Tajikistan HAS TO avoid a loss. If they tie, Jordan will still be two points ahead but will have to play Saudi in the last game while Tajikistan will have a game vs Pakistan. If Tajikistan beat Jordan very likely they will qualify.
Group H
UAE and Bahrain
Group I
Australia qualify. Lebanon has to beat Palestine and Bangladesh and hope Palestine loses to Australia. I would give the edge to Palestine
All that being said, if the draw happened tomorrow, this is what the draw would look like with these assumptions and current rankings.
POT 1
Japan
Iran
Korea
POT2
Australia
Qatar
Saudi
POT3
Iraq
Uzbekistan
UAE
POT4
Jordan
Oman
Bahrain
POT 5
China
Syria
Palestine
POT 6
Kyrgyzstan
Kuwait
Indonesia
Some possible teams that could make it on the brink are India, Thailand, Malaysia, Lebanon, Tajikistan who would take either a Pot 5 or 6 position.
Hardest group personally :Iran, Saudi, Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Kuwait.
So much gaavbandi and badbakhti.
Easiest group personally: Iran, Australia, UAE, Bahrain, China, Kyrgyzstan.
What do you guys think?

It's a bit of a travel for us but I wanna finally face Australia again after a million years. Keeping Jordan in there makes it interesting and also two east asian teams so we can have experience with speedier players
