He has developed almost chronic calf problems because of the 10 extra lbs he suddenly added in the last year, at least this is my best guess…the guys calves are built like literal asteroids so this has nothing to do with strengthening. But under the increased load from the extra weight and the higher intensity of the trainings he seems prone to these type of calf/Achilles injuries. Before WC it was the same injury that kept him sidelined.
He is of course the responsible party, but I also do question their medical staff. They invested a lot of money in him, clearly xabi rates him from technical perspective. How hard can it be to get a guy to lose that extra visible weight? When pep said calvin Philips was overweight last year he dropped him from the squad and he was back in the list the following week…it doesn't take that long for a pro footballer to burn 5-10 extra lbs…

100 percent right about the extra weight adding more stress to the muscles. The body isn't used to it at that level of being a constant high intensity athlete. I think one honest criticism of thing abojr Sardar is it seems he lacks self discipline, the same discipline that Taremi or ARJ have that makes them have greek god sculpted bodies and great fitness.
Ali Karimi was overweight when he came to PP around the 2008-2009 season too, alongside when he played for Iran. It almost feels like a similar situation. Extraordinary talent but lack of personal discipline to stay fit.
It's simple, calories in, calories out. Even without exercising he can be limiting his caloric intake. He's just eating too much and probably has the Bayer 04 doctors puzzled at how he has kept the weight on since the Word Cup. Many of us have been there at some point

Rolfes on Sardar:
<< really a pity - he played a good first half against Paderborn on Friday and also presented himself well in training beforehand. It's not a big deal now. We have to see that we can get him fit quickly. Sardar needs to work on his fitness in rehab to be in good shape when he comes back," explains Rolfes.>>

"This is a totalitarian system whose presence people feel in their blood and in their flesh on a daily basis. And it’s one that does not grant freedoms of any kind, or accommodate people’s demands in any way. What is increasingly clear is that there is clear demand for change in the regime. What the people want is regime change, and no return to the past. There is a very real possibility of regime change." - Nasrin Sotoudeh
