Placement was good but not enough power behind it. He had a good chance not long before the pen but laid the ball off when taking the shot was the better option.
Got a lovely reception when he went off though.

Here's the missed PK vid. Placement and speed were pretty good, but keeper guessed right.

Taremi seemed as surprised as the crowd.

^it looks like he just didnt connect well with the ball .... also keeper was cheating way too much to that side... he shoulda noticed that and just tap a semi firm shot to the other corner for an easy goal...!

well at least it was during a friendly... did they win .? how many minutes did he play anyways ?

One thing I did notice, there was lots of love shown to and from Mehdi in the stadium. He applauded the fans just before the pen, took a while for them to take it as for some reason this friendly had VAR.

Finished 1-1. Danny Loader with a 98th min equaliser.
Mehdi has played behind Toni Martinez the last two friendly games he has started, I hope if he is to stay that these games show that he needs to be moved further forward again or have a different partnership (Fran or Namoso Loader or Evanilson when he is fit).

it seems as Porto are pressuring him for an extension....and he may possibly already have a desirable next club in mind who is willing to pay up to 30mil for his capture..!!? if so.. and even a bigger if Porto agree to this

this could well be a shrewd way of keeping Porto front office and fans happy, in case of staying and ability to force a more desirable move by the lower release clause..!!

and i dont figure he'd be all too keen to be re-signing for similarly low $ pay-package as b4..!!?

doesn’t make any sense. Why extend for a loose release clause when he’s contract free next season. He can even begin negotiations in January since he’s a free agent in June.

yea, but most of the buzz surrounding him this summer stemmed from him playing a ton of minutes and winning the golden boot ..! he can ill afford to piss off porto and risk getting benched often or yanked back to MF and have his production go down the drain along with it...!! at old ass age of 32 next season, if he is coming off an unimpressive season figures, it'll be really hard for him to convince a more elite EU club to take a chance on him .? but as a free agent i suppose many would take a punt, having little to lose and everything to gain....!
if he refuse extension, at best case he will be offloaded this winter, likely to a tokhmy EU club just trying survive relegation ..?

i suppose signing an extension while reducing his buy out clause to half is a relatively sorta safe contractual tactic in this regard ?? but 30mil is still too high of a figure...! better off being Free coming off a a lousy stat year.... maybe if it was 15-20max buy out clause, then that would make more sense...!!

I think Porto is going to have a very poor season and Taremi will be forced to play as a CM of sorts. This will probably reduce his production stats which to the already critical eye of European scouts towards Iranians, will only lower his value. It’s remarkable that he has had 4 remarkable seasons in Portugal and yet people still question his ability.

long story short, he should try and leave this season, or even in winter (after the Asian cup).

Man U just paid 70 million euros for an unknown player from atalanta , but no one wants to pay 20 for taremi, this is a discrimination against iranians

It's really sad and unfair, but when a country is ruled by the world's worst regime for over 44 years and its reputation is ruined, it affects all aspects of life, including sports. Mehdi is suffering because of his nationality and where he comes from.

Hopefully the country can turn a new leaf and get rid of this regime and our players will no longer be discriminated against. We will join the international fold once again as a peaceful, highly cultured country.

Shame that Mehdi Taremi has had to deal with this during this era. I have no doubt he could have been Asia's greatest ever footballer if other things went his way.
"This is a totalitarian system whose presence people feel in their blood and in their flesh on a daily basis. And it’s one that does not grant freedoms of any kind, or accommodate people’s demands in any way. What is increasingly clear is that there is clear demand for change in the regime. What the people want is regime change, and no return to the past. There is a very real possibility of regime change." - Nasrin Sotoudeh
