Is it possible that they get the name from the provided name from the Federation?

On IRIB they don't call it Iran they continuously call it IR Iran. I assume this is done in all the countries it affects as well. They did the same with FYR Macedonia changing to North Macedonia.

That remains to be seen and given precedent, yes they absolutely would if they are calling Iran IR IRAN, North Korea DPR Korea etc.

FIFA is a mixed bag with this stuff, especially when it came to banning Russia in the past they banned South Africa, Yugoslavia over politics too.

They have let Nazi Germany play in the 1938 WC as well as Argentina in the 1978 world cup despite the 1976 military coup.
