I said I do not care about their background. There ARE people who do, who have messed up our teams mental game before just as they were tearing down Taremi before the World Cup.
I don't want them to consider political backgrounds of families, but these people do.
Talk of "infecting" is you projecting, the reason Poya Asbaghi won't ever be called up to help our national team is because of some mouthbreather in Iran's government who reads that Poya's family ran away because of political persecution.
So my short answer to your narrow response is there are people who use their background to propel their own agenda and I'm happy Saman avoids all the bullets so we have our only good CM and EPL player since the Dejagah era.
In fact Saman hasn't avoided being targeted. He has faced direct criticism from some of "those " people .
And you know, my first reaction of that interview clip, as Saman sheepishly confirmed that they record him so that he doesn't say the wrong thing, was...why does he allow himself to be treated as such? As a person who grew up and lives in a free society, how can he allow the loss of his rights? What does he gain by that public loss of dignity that was documented for his native Sweden and projected on social media.

Some people always dreamed of playing for Team Melli from a young age regardless of the implications/complications. Love of your country can be greater than hatred of a regime.
Players including Daei, Karimi, Bagheri, Zarrincheh, etc all have gone to US/Europe, greencards or otherwise and get exposed to life there and seem to prefer it and want those freedoms for Iranians.
I doubt Ghoddos gains anything from this obvious truth being revealed to the world.
If everybody in Iran who knows what a free society is left Iran, the only people left would be the regime's folks and religious zealots from Afghanistan and Pakistan and our country would deteriorate.
Sepas, I'm happy these things are not an issue for our team in our chances in winning the tournament and Unfortunately will rear its ugly head 1000x over in 2026.

And all of those people had their immediate families & much else in Iran too...all real and practical attachments that don't affect Saman.
I doubt Ghoddos gains anything from this obvious truth being revealed to the world. He gains the continuing honor and rewards of playing for a NT and in a WC. Playing in a NT does keep your stock relevant in a big way. Ask a football agent and they'll tell you.

Not sure of the relevance...Saman did not leave out of his own volition and Particularly hypocritical coming from someone who already lives in a rich free country. Iranians who choose to leave Iran are no less than those who choose to stay.

I don't care that his family is IRI or MEK or not. You said you did.

I made no such implication between value of Iranians in or outside of Iran. I hand money to family members who go there to give to those in need the only way I know I can give back for now. People in Iran drive the countrys future forward more than anything I can do out here and I acknowledge that.
It sounds like you think Ghoddos plays for Iran for personal gain which is a not so nice thing to think about our star player.

It sucks because it seems like he lost his starting spot going to the Asian Cup plus with Brentford's acquisition of Reguilon (whose been starting at LWB).
At the least, Saman should be starting at RWB ahead of Roesrslev.

Are you sure you were in Brentford and not Brentwood

The area has become gentrified in the last 10 years and is full of young aspirational conservative (socially and/or politically) families that can't afford to live in the surrounding areas like Richmond and Kew yet.
It's a weird mix of deprived council estates and then lots of terraced houses that are in the region of 700k to 1 million pounds.
The gentrified social life also reflects the type of people that have moved into the area, lots of dull and boring bars and pubs.
I say this because my ex gf lives in Kew and her brother lives in Brentford so I know the area well and unfortunately I've had to socialise with a lot of the people that lived in the area.

It has been a few years since I passed through Brentford so maybe it's changed dramatically. Perhaps that big Barratt Homes development where Ealing Rd meets the M4 is to blame. Yuppie Tory youth getting on the housing ladder with Help to Buy, invading what was always a working class Brentford.
What was the traumatic experience, I'm intrigued? Did you see Saman pulling wooden splinters out of his bum outside the Watermans Centre?
