He just came back from a pretty bad injury. I'm guessing they're taking precautions to slowly get him fit and not rush. He was a full time starter before.

When we used to have so many pure central midfielders (ie CM not DM like Ezatollahi, Sarlak etc..), we have only Ali Karimi now. how did we get so thin with an injury-prone player who never reached the level of his predecessors

Both started in 3-1 win vs Rizespor! 90 min for Majid, 81 for AK!

Great news. Ali karimi esp could be crucial for us. Honestly he had solid wc, unlike most Iranian CM he has good combo of physique and technicality. Yes slow but for Asian level his speed is ok.

frankly vs Korea+ sides he would be in my starting xi with ezatolahi and saman. Brings the technical level of the midfield up a lot and reduces turnovers.

And majid should be starter with kanani

But you used to argue with me that he is slow and shit and not team melli material. Glad you finally got there.

I would be surprised if you could find me saying on here AK is not TM material, please do try. In fact if you just go to the first page of this thread you can see me saying the exact opposite. He is TM material considering how bad our midfield options are, certainly for the squad. You are likely confusing me with somebody else, but no hard feelings.

Vs higher level international opposition a midfield of saeid and karimi is too slow, but for asian opposition it should do ok, of course like I said when alternative is Saeid and Nour its obvious what is better.

While in transition these 2 are very slow if combined with saman they will reduce turnover rate so much that our team won't be exposed in transitions as badly anyways.

For some reason i can't find any post older than 2018. Our discussion goes back to when he was playing in sepahan ( 2016-2018), I remember you used to say that he is slow , not energetic , weak and not suitable for our WC list.

I still beleive he is top class when it comes to play making and passing. It not CQ team anymore where he relies on physical game and parking the bus tactics. I hope he doesn't get injured this time

Hear me out: midfield of AK-Ghoddos-Taremi. I just don't see what Ezatolahi offers anymore, to be honest, and it seems like he drags the team down somewhat. Past 4-5 international games he has played, some things I see from him are: Falling down and slipping after a kick, unfocused passing, jogging on defense, commiting fouls and penalties, and having lost his sense of space.

When was the last time he had a meaningful contribution on a national stage?

I personally believe that playing Taremi as CAM with Ghoddos and Karimi behind him to distribute is good, and gives us depth to use a front three like Torabi-Azmoun-ARJ/Gholizadeh

ezatolahi was very solid at the WC. Excellent vs Wales and probably our best player vs the US. Before that he had two phenomenal games vs Senegal and Uruguay. Yeah he is not in his best shape yet but as assist vs copenhagen showed again he has qualities nobody else on TM has.

                              VS Korea, 4-2-3-1

That's a sexy squad. If Karimi ends up being too slow, sub him out for Nour or something who can run his ass off.

Don't you think putting Ghoddos next to Eza might be better to distribute from the back in that formation? Would help a lot with defensive stability.
