As the Varzesh TV commentator said before the 2nd goal was scored, "We have to refrain from giving back passes towards the goalkeeper when the grass is so wet", and sure enough their 2nd goal was the result of a back pass which was totally unnecessary.

With a tie we had a good chance of topping the group, now we may end up 3rd and may face Spain in the next round.

Man that second England goal was so lucky. The main issue wasn’t that our goalie missed the catch of the ball. The problem is when he missed the ball, he accidentally passed the ball with his legs towards the England attacker. That part with his sliding legs was super unlucky

The rain made him slide further down than he thought he would. Why are FIFA and AFC insistent on giving host spots to countriest with shittiest climates and pitches to host major tournaments?

I read a lot of excuses or reasons here why we lost the game but none really highlights the real issue.

We have a major youth development problem in Iran. We have a lot of raw talent but there is no system for formal learning and development. What we see is just individual efforts.

You clearly saw the difference between coming out of the preimer league top teams' academy versus coming from teams in Iran with lack of facility, proper coaching, program, etc etc etc... our players lack basic skills and understanding of how this game is played. Whatever they do is just doing the best they can.

If things were different in Iran, these kids could have been on top of the world. I will keep supporting them as i know they are there to do the impossible at the moment.

he was brilliant tonight up against a top man city prospect. Seriously an explosive talent. When he improves his recognition of when/how to time his offensive surges he can be a top class full back. Another product of KIA academy

the development gap you’re talking about becomes more important m after this age group. Basically from age 17-23 our players don’t get he necessary guidance and opportunities.
every single one of these kids needs good coaching, mentorship, and most importantly playing time in a senior team. If they get benched for ever and forgotten, they’ve been wasted.

Which is fortunately why they gotta leave ASAP. I'd argue the second biggest problem is scummy agents. There needs to be an agent pipeline for Iranians to Europe but instead the pipeline is to Qatar and UAE which always screws our youth over

Anywhere in Europe is better than going to those bum leagues that make you lazy. Second division Sweden over uae

Went back to sleep after halftime when we were 1-0 up. I even told myself it would be chill if England scored and we drew. When I opened this thread and saw we lost, it was a sad moment

When we will realize passing is the most key thing, we will be unmatched. Lot of time, our players put all their focus and energy doing their zorro dribble to relax after and waste it with a bad pass..
The curse of Iranian Football, from the recreational amateur level to the pros, from the U-10 to the full TM. More interested in flash than actual results.

Its so shameful too because next to a few other countries our players of all ages are actually excellent at triangle tiki taka in small spaces. Using that to make space and then attacking that space will push us to the next step in transition

Do you see any of these players getting to some euro decent club (good league or some good formation team like RB Salzburg) or will we get the more or less same crappy clubs?

"This is a totalitarian system whose presence people feel in their blood and in their flesh on a daily basis. And it’s one that does not grant freedoms of any kind, or accommodate people’s demands in any way. What is increasingly clear is that there is clear demand for change in the regime. What the people want is regime change, and no return to the past. There is a very real possibility of regime change." - Nasrin Sotoudeh

Watched the replay of the first England goal.

Shakouri's position was off. Had he centered himself, he could have saved that slow and low ball.

It's alright though, he's young and has a bright future ahead of him

I am hoping this team will match the performance of 2017 and get to the quarter finals - i don't think this team is any weaker than Delfi, Sayyadmanesh and co

Unfortunately unless Iran's political situation changes I expect these bright talents will go the same way as the 2017 team, that's just the IR tax. But hopefully they can have some amazing memories
