GN being a short sighted and poor coach that he is wasted the opportunity to test Hosseinnejad and Hazbavi in the meaningless Qatar tournament.

He could have brought in Hosseinnejad when Saman was injured instead of that worthless Karimi and we would not have lost the midfield the way we did.

Hazbavi could have also helped stabilize our defense in the second half.

Ghalenoei is the best iranian coach and the only real option - he is the only guy who i think can get us quarter final in Asian Cup with the current situation

Our core is the weakest it has been and apart from Taremi we have no 90-minute fit (at competitive level) players - i think we are going to be surprised with the physical and psychological strength of other nations compared to what we have been used to in previous tournaments when we get to the tournament itself (not qualifiers or friendlies)

This tournament is going to be the penny dropping tournament for some hardcore fans, I hope we don't lose Mashsaeed

To me the first goal was mostly Biranvand’s fault. Karimi basically poked the ball away from their player who was running with the ball. Our two defenders were playing with their backs to the goal waiting to close down the runner. Their CF was facing our goal and managed to get a step on our defenders on that poked ball. It was up to Biranvand to spot that run and rush the forward and make himself big instead of taking a couple of step forward and freeze on the 6 yard line. The second goal was partly Cheshmi’s fault who headed the easy ball wrongly to the middle of the field and started the counter for them. I agree that the coaching was subpar. Subbing Azmoun out was a dumb move. JB’s absence was felt mostly because of his fighting spirit and his presence forcing the opposing team to play deeper. We basically had no ability to go up the wings and send any crosses in. Torabi was very ineffective the whole game. In the first half even with Saman playing a solid game, Taremi dropped back deep several times to help establish possession and eliminate the pressure. I did not notice any of that in the second half.

Part of being a good coach is rotation. I'd absolutely trust my Persepolis/Esteghlal/Sepahan etc players to rotate in against teams like Hong Kong/Palestine/Syria. Their squads are all domestic based almost. Is PGL weaker than them?

Our core could be rested and rotated for the big games.

My expectation is quarter final because the so called weaker teams have improved, are more fit than they were before, whilst we have stagnated and rely too much on our two star players.

Nations like Syria are so hungry to beat us and we are due a knockout loss to one of them in a proper tournament. It's only a matter of time

Our only realistic central/defensive midfield player gets out of breath after 30 minutes!

My hope is semi final and I think this would get GN a contract extension, but I still see QF as the more realistic exit at this stage. Still, things can change

The only players that can help us in the middle of the pitch alongside Ezatolahi are Ghoddos, Nourafkan when he is fit and Hosseinnejad. Omid Ebrahimi, Cheshmi, Ali Karimi and Nourollahi are in a point in their careers where they can’t help TM.
