Checked online actually in that game Syria had a 1-0 lead and then we came back to 2-1 before they made it 2-2 with that Al soma dude

However 28 May is one cursed date, TM's worst losses happend on that date 6:1 loss to Turkey in a friendly (1950) and 5:0 loss to South Korea in Asian Games (1958). Other losses on that date include 2:1 loss to China in a friendly (1986), 2:1 loss to Turkey in a friendly (2018).
Also TM was leading 2:1 against Croatia in a friendly (2006) but ended up drewing them 2:2 I think referee gave them 7 or 9 minutes injury time.
TM won Syria 1:0 in WAFF (2000).

26 May 1958 TM lost to Israel 4:0 in Asian Games. Other games on 26 May throughout history were ties.

TM should not arrange friendly on 28 May since it is doomed.

look at TM qualification for World Cup in 1994, 1998 and 2002. Look at the results in late October, early November. Mostly very bad.

The ref in that game vs croatia was croatian. Think they hadnt lost forever at home and ref was shady if i recall correctly. Didnt they get a cheap penalty or important call in the end? Long time ago.

It was the last friendly for both teams before the WC 06. The ref team were Croatian and they did delay the game until a 50/50 penalty occurred which of course they awarded it which caused Croatia to tie the game in the dying seconds.

There was also an instance where they called one of our would be goals offside which the replay showed that it was perfectly legitimate.

I remember many years later the POS ref admitted to everything because he did not want his nation to enter WC 06 with their last game being a defeat at home.
