As the title says, I'm at a loss for words about why a country of 90 million people who has a football identity of the "technical" where so many kids have played gol kuchik on streets in small spaces or a country that is constantly in the top 10 for futsal is unable to produce a batch of midfielders that can play box to box or center attacking midfield.
Futsal is basically quick passing sequences and a thousand small passes to cause a thousand small cuts to the opponent until you find your chance to score. I haven't seen Iran's senior football team seige a team into their 18yard box and constantly zing passes around with attacks for ages while I have seen our futsal team do it. It's always so disjointed and individualistic in football.
We have enough people who volunteer to play a passable job at GK, enough tall/strong players to play CB(IQ not included). We are constantly with too many wingers I guess based on dribbling and individual talent. Every generation, we seem to get lucky and produce a power forward or two like Daei and Azmoun. Taremi being an anomaly.
We have not had anyone capable of playing Centre-attacking mid at a high level since Ali Karimi(the Original) and after him Shojaei sometimes when he wasn't being an idiot.
What's the systemic failure that prevents us making players who have to be creative(which most Iranian players are otherwise) and playmake
Some might argue that a real "Number 10" is less and less common in the modern game but in that case why are our Centermids not able to dictate play the way they are expected to these days? So where are our 8's and 6s? Where are the Bagheri/Estili's?
Even for RB/LB we seem to have a failure at making any position of player that can carry the ball up the field and dictate tempo. Now, wingback is the most revolutionized position in modern football expected to cover so much ground and to join attacks constantly and sometimes even drop into the middle of the midfield as an inverted player. We still only seem to make wingbacks(God save Andarz) who run in a straight line until they either run into someone or get a terrible cross off.
