You should hide the birth year in your username, it shows you were a bache ktulu when we were all suffering losing to Bahrain just like we did today. I give up on this team, so I hope Ghalenoei and Enayati are appointed lifetime coaches by Ayatollah himself and he blesses them with his personal bathwater, so you can continue to enjoy this team playing like Maldives against Syria, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan, heck, we should even bring Kuwait back to lose to them in the next semifinals. It's been a while since we had the pleasure. You personally earned this result for mighty TM today, and hopefully you'll send some donations to Iran to pay Ghalenoei's next 3 years of his contract to keep those chains off like you hoped!

We played beautiful today against Qatar, against Syria, and even the mighty Hong Kong. Me and Peiman are so proud of this team's performance, damn you Carlos Queiroz, you caused this today somehow!
I will answer this later today.

First of all, i was wrong about Ghalenoei.
I really thought he had installed the winning mentality needed for us to win the AC, but he ultimately made the same mistake as the other coaches.
He had the chains off but put them back on when it mattered the most.

Being wrong about Ghalenoei doesn't change my view on CQ. You talk about CQ like he won two AC lol. Look at Qatar, they fired his ass and are now in final. CQ was responsible for 5 straight tournament failures, the most in our history.

I clearly said from the beginning that if Ghalenoei does not win the AC he should be fired.

2 factors leading to our failure

            1. Behaviour after Japan game from fans, players, coach and media.

I said after the game in this thread that there was still much room for improvement. But unfortunately our fans, players, coach, media etc started celebrating like we won the AC. For many of them, the tournament ended after the Japan game.

Just look at the threads made in this forum. "We dominated Japan" "Ghalenoei sepas" etc. Baba we hadn't done shit by beating Japan, it was just a quarterfinal. But for some it was like we won the tournament.

The players are also to blame. Taremi during one of his interviews said that all Azmoun could think of since the tournament started was Japan game. It was all he focused on, because of what happened in 2019. After Japan game (when he was crying) i had a very bad feeling. It was as if that was his final game and he wouldn't care what happened after. Ghalenoei was also celebrating like we won the cup. The media i don't even want to speak about.

            2. Ghalenoei not having courage when it mattered.

He should have changed back to 4-4-2 after Japan game. Instead he got scared and thought "what happens if i lose the game when changing back to 4-4-2? The media, fans etc will be all over me for changing a winning formation. Let's play it safe and if i lose nobody can criticize my choice of formation."
Why preparing a formation for 9 months but then not use it when it matters the most?

To be a champion, you must think like a champion when it matters.
Ghalenoei failed in this, like all coaches have done since 76.

In the end, yet another heartbreak. I'm not sure how many more my heart can take.
2 games i will never watch in tournaments again and i suggest everyone do the same lol:

            AC semifinal
            WC 3rd group game

These two type of games have only brought me misery.

I respect that you admit you were wrong about GN. CQ is not a king, and I don't want him back. Comparing on field organization and sticking to a plan, imo, there is no question that CQ's tactics, although not fun and very rigid, the players stuck to the plan and we were always well organized. We rarely had games where the other teams had shots on target. CQ was too defensive though, and it's reasonable to say a manager who can maintain a similar structure defensively, but be 20% more attacking would be ideal for us. The problem is, Ghalenoei had no plan generally. Defensively, it's clear his organization was either an utter failure, or he did not plan anything for defensive shape this tournament. We leaked goals. Offensively, I saw what I saw with every vatani/Branko TM coach since I started watching football, which was bezan ziresh aliasghari football. Not exactly anything innovative.

The answer is simple. None of our coaches, including GN, has been good enough to get us past group stage of world cup or AC semifinal. We need to now look for someone of a higher profile who expresses a clear plan and tactic for TM that errs more defensive than GN and less defensive than CQ. This person is the Goldi-locks manager we need. Someone who can balance our team in a way neither CQ or GN have shown they are capable.

Yeah, Japan game was their final, when in reality it was just a QF.
Nice to see that we finally agree on something, but unfortunately it had to be after a loss lol.

Good to hear that you don't want CQ back, you have my respect for that.

Regarding tactics, i think we have opposite views on how we should play. I'd rather we win 4-3 than 1-0.
In a perfect world i would say 20% less offensive than GN would have been ideal, but i don't think that is possible.
IMO you can either play attacking or defensive and no in between. You need to choose one style and play it to 100% for it to work.
It is simply not possible to play an attacking style while keeping CQ defensive shape and vice versa.

Skocic tried something like that and it was just a complete mess.
You choose a style and just have to accept the pros and cons.

I agree that in the end both GN and CQ were not good enough.

I honestly enjoyed Skocic's football more than GN's. I was on the Skocic hate train, because again, I didn't think he was tactically sound at all. We would have been pretty bad in World Cup as Skocic was out of his depth against stronger teams, but Skocic knew how to beat these lowly Arab teams. I think he could have squeezed out a result against Japan, and we would've probably coasted to a win of this Asian Cup. Japan was literally the only boogeyman team we had to play this whole cup. We never worried about Syria, Jordan, Qatar, UAE under CQ or Skocic. Under GN, we even had poor results in our WCQ against Uzbekistan, which Uzbeks have been no threat to us in about a decade. That gave me a hint we were going to fall like this to a team like Qatar in the Asian Cup, we had forewarning. I think Ghalenoei is among the worst possible choices for TM. Not because I don't like his style of play, but because I wholeheartedly believe he doesn't have a style of play. Many noticed his style is bezan ziresh, and it's funny for years we used to laugh at the prospect of Ghalenoei being appointed and devolving back to aliasghari football. Now that it happened, we have 25% of people asking for more? It's ridiculous. Skocic was a tactically clueless version of the coach I hope for. Someone more balanced, but can adjust and have a plan during the game and really prepare the players to defend or attack in the right moments. There have been teams like this, I'd say Japan at their height was able to do both and adjust, but they also have a fraud coach right now.

Iran, Japan and Korea were all beaten due to bad coaching, I don't know if that's clear to everyone. Japanese and Korean fans are calling for their coaches heads on reddit, isn't it sad that we have a fairly strong minority group on here asking for more Ghalenoei? We are sadomasochists, we love to be tortured as a people.

Regarding Skocic, i can’t see any scenario he defeats Japan. Ghalenoei also beat the two arab finalist over 2 games 7-1 four months ago, but fucked up when it mattered. I simply don’t understand why he didn’t start with 4-4-2 against Qatar, it cost us everything.

I don’t agree with GN playing Ali-Ashgari football.
In every game (besides) Hong Kong we created at least 5-6 golden opportunities. Against Qatar we had 22 shots. All my foreign friends kept saying Irans games are the most entertaining to watch etc. Iran-Japan & Iran-Qatar are surely among games of the tournament. Ofc non of it matters as we didn’t win the cup in the end. But to say this was a result of Ali Ashghari is simply not true.

I very much enjoyed the type of football we played this AC. My only big concern was that we were too wasteful, and that in combination by GN getting scared in SF led to our downfall in the end.
