But if we're talking in a strictly Iranian football context:

    - Hashemian is the third best striker we ever had (better than Sardar) and got screwed over by coming up during Daei's prime.

    - Mobali was overrated.

    - The best team in PGPL would barely avoid relegation in the championship.
Mmm disagree on point 1 and 3. Point 2 is agreed.

On your third point, it depends on what teams you mean and in what era. For instance, the Taj team with Enayati, Akbarpour, and Borhani under GN was sensational and would survive the championship imo

        Controversial?!! Here is mine:

Ali Karimi did not learn how to play proper football until he went to BM. There he learned the fundamentals that if he had learned earlier in his career, he could have been one of the World's all-time greats.

          Possibly controversial but....

Ahmad Nourollahi is our best midfielder not named Ghoddos and will be sorely missed at Asia Cup when we bow out early in round of 16 or QF

quick question .... As you might be aware the same scenario is happening right now. There is a bombing in iran and over 180 have been killed. People who were protesting last year are happy about this and are thanking the bombers for this.

Now if team melli players condemn this (which they will), and people go against them again, does that mean you give GN excuses for not advancing to semi finals?

Just curious to see the view on this.

without doubt khalatbari . Stupid and unfair mistake by CQ for not taking him to WC 2014. Fast , technical and versatile player. One of my favorites specially in ACL.

Very controversial imo as I think he may be one of the worst players to have played for TM in the last few years.

Agreed. Excellent player for us that was treated very unfairly by CQ. I also think that there must be some behind the scenes info on what transpired.

Had some great moments but we played a phalanx formation for that world cup as our squad was so light (domestic players and three newly brought in foreign born/raised guys)

He would have been flattened by Nigeria and we wouldn't have been able to play the way we did against Argentina.

I was really pissed of with Queiroz for not taking him and Azmoun for 2014 but in retrospect I think it was the right move as we needed every player possible to sh*thouse to get anything from that world cup

Karimi was the focal point of teams before Bayern. Bayern forced him to learn more about team work

Yes, but we also had players like Reza Haghighi, and Bakhtiar Rahmani in the squad. He deserved to have been in the squad at the very least

Yea Exactly. I think against argentina (non physcial ) team khalatbari would've been perfect. He was very fast and technical.

CQ made lots of mistakes and this was without a doubt one of them.

Yep he always made some weird choices, which i just couldn't get my head round. Some random players invited. He could have been in the squad

I guess it is counterbalanced by things which literally everyone criticised and he tended to prove people wrong.

Eg going back to 2018 and see what people here were saying about him here re: picking Taremi, or blooding Majid Hosseini. Which for me counter-balanced picking Shojaei

Each tournament he has rolled the dice, making some crazy decisions but producing the next stars in a way which is easy to forget in retrospect.

Compare with GN (and our recent coach Skocic) who don't really push the boat out.
