Players of his height are often stockier or put an emphasis on muscle building to avoid completely losing the strength battles with bigger players.

Few exceptions like Messi who were not only levels above him in technical ability but had other physical attributes that made them special, like a ridiculous low centre of gravity and balance to bounce off challenges and still move quickly... anyway, even the likes of Messi, Alexis Sanchez and Verratti could easily take Ghaedi in a wrestling match.
Out of curiosity what do you make of CQ's omitting Khalatbari from Team Melli? Was it because Khalatbari was too short as well? Khalatbari was arguably Iran's best player at the time if you recall.

He's the same player he was 5 years ago. That alone should exclude him from TM. Players who don't improve their skills have no place in the team.

He also lacks vision, plays "shol", is a net negative defensively, and is obviously very undersized.

The Iranian league is full of players who can dribble and do flashy things. Much rather give that spot to a player like Limouchi or Ahmadzadeh who brings other things besides fancy dribbles to the table.

        Gandedi doesn't reach Khalatbari knee

Agreed. I was countering his point on height being a cause for omission.

Khatabari was even higher than Gandedi. Poor guy has absolutely nothing except dribble in a very favorable context

How exactly have you countered height being the cause for Ghaedi's current omission by bringing up a different player, with a different build (stockier, though everyone is stockier than Ghaedi, you could knock that kid over by blowing in his direction as if you were trying to blow out a candle), who was also omitted from a major tournament in a different time (10 years ago), when we had a weaker squad... on the basis we parked the bus and defending wasn't his skillset?

Surely it would have made more sense to bring up a stick thin, 5' 7" player at Ghaedi's level of ability (i.e. handy when in form at the early rounds of continental qualifying in one of the weakest football continents but with few big performances on record) who has been selected for his team regularly to "counter my point" that height is a massive factor.

Mashti, nobody is suggesting that Ghaedi is contender to be a TM starter. He really shouldn't even be in the TM squad under normal circumstances. The argument is, we have a poor selection of technical players that have the capability to one-to-two, dribble past a player or two, and score goals at tight angles. Hence why he is in the TM squad.

Considering Torabi, Jahanbakhsh, and Gholi will largely play the majority of games, I pose you the question, what is our Plan B or C on the wings without them or when they aren't performing? Would you like to play Omid Ebrahmi, or Cheshmi on the wings? Or perhaps a left-back?

Ghaedi is small, weak, and yes should be working harder in the gym to gain mass. Does that mean he should not be in our squad, no. Not under the current circumstances where we lack alternative players to play on the wing and can double up as a striker.

You are discounting context to justify his exclusion and your argument rests heavily on his size which I suggest is not too dissimilar to the statures of Khalatbari, Kaabi, and Khodadad.

And I liked many of CQ's decisions but he should have invited Khalatbari. And if I had to guess, given I do not believe he has spoken on the matter, behind his decision was his belief that Khalatbari was too short to play for him.

“it’s not the size of the dog in a fight…rather the size of the Fight in the dog ..!”?

well this vastly over-rated, lightweight midget lacks both in him..!
I think Essi pretty much nailed the problems with him trying to pose as a legit international player …much less an impactful game-changing type..!

regardless, similar to ARJ has knack for seeing defensive soft spots & position himself well for exploiting & has a tad bit of technical abilities on the ball..!
He certainly didn’t deserve call up to the AC squad specially so considering our already crowded attacking lineups and rather severe shortage of decent CMs, WB, even CBs to make up a far more wholesome & effective squad..!

And it’s one that does not grant freedoms of any kind, or accommodate people’s demands in any way. What is increasingly clear is that there is clear demand for change in the regime. What the people want is regime change, and no return to the past. There is a very real possibility of regime change." - Nasrin Sotoudeh
