He's outplayed Kanaani and Cheshmi at CB. Only Shoja has been more consistent but Majid was definitely our best defender against HK and also played well against Burkina Faso.

Btw, I wish to be fair, against HK he was actually very good having rewatched the game. His lacklustre performance came in the first game.

Let's not get carried away with this result against a tier 2 Asian team. We should've scored more goals on multiple occasions, Azmoun singlehandedly missed at least 3 or 4 great chances that he should've scored on at least half of the occasion, scoring chances against the top tier teams would be more rare and if not scored on it'll cost you the game. Ezatollahi could not perform to any acceptable level filling that very important spot, Moharrami was careless and gave up possession in the 45 minutes that he played.. Ebrahimi had little to offer same in his previous outing..

I rewatched the game and agree with you about Ezatollahi. On the first page, people said he played well. He did not. Against such low opposition, he made too many mistakes. Proper DMs have 90%+ pass rates and do it against the most physically ferocious players with incredible team presses. He is capable of doing better. If you are going to be as medium to slow as him, you better have an impeccable touch and a perfect pass. I have hope that he will shine in the big games.

Rewatching this game rn and paying attention to that 1 minute period where JB loses the ball 3 times. Too funny

Other than the brief period under Skocic, Jahanbaksh has been for the most part horrible since his initial success in Holland. He has been trash since he moved to the EPL and afterwards. He cannot cross, pass, hold onto the ball, dribble or shoot. It is mind blowing that he keeps playing on the basis that he was once good. He also isn’t a good leader at all, he has a temper and his poor play makes him not be taken seriously.

At one point in time (during his youth) and in Holland, he was phenomenal. I agree and I wish those days had any meaning for right now. But that player and this one only share the same name, nothing else. Those days are gone. This is simply a horrible player now. I legit don’t think he’d even stand out on the PGL right now If he played.

I really hope he is benched for the majority of the tournament and is no longer invited to TM.

No, I'm referring to Majid Hosseini. I felt his appearance in our first game was incredibly poor but he had a stellar performance against HK.

Part of these players looking horrible is not playing together to get in sync. Not having proper friendlies or a real coach contributes to that. In my opinion PAG is our best cb but he is injured. Majid is second. Right now third is shoja. Both shoja and kanani go nuts sometimes and get unnecessary cards or give away bad free kicks. Majid also to some extent. PAJ was the only rock solid cb. Stayed composed great in the air very good ball distribution. PAJ was gone a long time and when he came back from injury it took some time to get his rhythm which is normal for all players except messi.

I agree with you for the most part. However, Majid looked poor in our first game when he came on as a substitute. Otherwise he's pretty solid.

That being said, Kanani when he is motivated and in form is imo the best defender we have so it's key for the players and coaching stuff to motivate him for the rest of the tournament.

As it stands our best defenders in this tournament have been (in order of form):

1) Shoja (faultless)
2) Moharammi (largely faultless, prior to GN he was poor)
3) Majid (terrible in our 1st game, amazing vs HK)
4) Kanani (glimpses of his form here and there but largely second guesses himself)
5) Ramin (looks slow both when running and when trying to get the ball from an opposition player)

Who says we don't? We certainly do! The only weakspot is not having Saman in the lineup. We can easily beat sooriye with our reserves + 1/2 starters.

Cheshmi? Cheshmi has played as a Defensive Midfielder for us in this tournament.

Burkina Faso is not in the tournament either.

Strictly in this tournament he has been tokhmi. Kanani has also been bad but the errors Majid has made have been so bad and comical I had a hard time believing what I was seeing. In the tournament, he has had some good moments and then ruins it with these random and very costly mistakes that will prove very costly us against Japan/Korea. Kanani is the same btw, he's been awful hence my posts about Kanani in this thread.

Btw, during the WC, I watched a lengthy TM training video and Majid was the best out of all our players in the drills. He is from a technical perspective one of the best Iranian footballers in our squad. But does that mean he was anywhere close to decent for us in this tournament? No. He has made so many kos maghz mistakes in the little he has played in the tournament and I am suprised you are saying otherwise.

The only decent defenders so far for us have been Shoja and Mohrammi.

Cheshmi played CB once Majid got injured against Hong Kong.

And he actually played better there than at CDM but still was bad in both positions
