The reason it became a PK is because it wasn't offside. If the assistant referee gets it wrong, VAR corrects him and then it would be a penalty because the foul still occurred.

If it was actually offside, no VAR check for penalty.

Biggest mistake was to play him. He made so manny mistakes. Gave away the ball too many times. Missed so manny assists . Physically he was weak. Could not take long balls.

Biggest mistake in lineup : ARJ and Ghayedi.

I don't agree. First half we dominated.

Ghayedi with his movement would take out a player or two; and would find himself in good shooting positions but did not receive the ball. Players need to link up better with him.

Arj had an okay game. Gholi is still the better player however.

Our biggest mistake besides Azmoun in front of goal was bringing Omid on. Omid offers us nothing

I think they made a mistake. The line judge did not raise his flags on the replay until after the foul had taken place.

The offside call was a mistake

but assistant referee correctly waited until after the play ended to raise his flag. that's because waiting allows var to intervene if you get the offside wrong, rather than calling it quickly and ending the play early

I believe that it has to do with the time the flag is raised. In this case, the flag was raised after the foul took place. If it had been raised before, then yes, VAR could not overrule it. At least this is my understanding.

That was my understanding too! I think it was definitely a penalty, but the process wasn't followed properly.

Offside is called when the referee BLOWS for it, not when AR raises it. So they are told to delay. If the referee blew for it early then it would have broke up the play and Beiro would not have fouled
