officiating in this game was atrocious. 2 obvious calls when they should have gone to VAR and they don't, and the one time when they should not have gone to the VAR, they did. The ref on the field was ok, but the officials behind the booth were clearly favoring Japan.

I thought so too. I don't know if you noticed, when they showed Azmoun's offside they showed the player in front of him, not the one behind him who was keeping him onside!

And what was with not calling a penalty on that handball?! His arm was way off his body and he stopped the shot with it!

We've clearly been unfortunate so far. But I'm hoping this means we're saving the calls for the rest of the tournament. We're definitely due a soft VAR penalty.

So I was waiting to tell this story after the game...

I have been ordering Persian food for dinner before every game... last night I wanted to go big with a beef koobideh and barg plate.

So I order my food.... and I go outside to grab it from the porch...

Its f**** vegan japanese food.... it was eel and a sushi bowl

I knew this was an omen... my stomach collapsed. This was the universe telling me Iran would lose.... The delivery man gave me the wrong order.


So I called postmates and they gave me a refund. I proceeded to order barg from another restaurant. It arrived safely to my porch and I devoured it. It was as good as the barg I used to eat from this restaurant in Hollywood my Dad would order from (I don't think its there anymore but it was near the Sunset exit off the US-101)

Anyways, the game... once we started bullying Japan, playing direct, making them chase us, they were disabled. The only time I see Japan get bullied like that is when they play the bigger European teams!

We beat the best team in Asia, without 3 of our best players, without our most optimal side (GN left some very useful players back home)


But this tournament is NOT OVER. We know that, the team needs to know that. No one stands in our way now... South Korea is WORSE than Japan, Qatar is WORSE than Japan. South Korea has been winning because of bad opposition and good luck in the last 15min of play. With Klutzmann in charge I wouldn't be surprised if they lay an egg against Jordan.

When Japan scored I knew it was sink or swim for us, and we swam like sharks! It is games like Syria and this one that gel us together!

I am really proud of this team and I can't wait to see us lift the trophy!!!

100%. Both these types of games (in particular the emotional roller coaster of Syria) are the ones that unify a team in a tournament

Such a Great second half. Azmoun and Mohebi played so good in the second half. Won all duels in the air. So what do we do now when Taremi returns? Go back too 2 forwards and 2 midfielders?

By the Way. VAR checked all the things. Just because the ref doesnt stop the game or run out to a screen, it doesnt mean they dont check. They just didnt Think there was anything to overrull. An honestly I dont Think there was penalty in any of the situations

We always have been... but that's because we lose our cool and start getting bad calls. This time we didn't do that and I thought the ref. was favouring us a bit - but definitely not the VAR crew.

I still believe that GN is not the manager we need but man he out coached the Japanese manager.

We played exactly where it hurted them. Good long balls with mohebbi and azmoun going for them. We were getting the second balls. Ezzi and Omid were amazing. Japan couldn't play its usual one touch football in the last 30 meters. The 2nd half was just amazing.
