No i don’t. We missed way too many chances today.
My biggest concern last 9 months has been how wasteful we have been. Although i think our Extra time performance+ penalties were ok.
there are some matches where any team, not just us... only can get 1 or 2 clear shots on target per game

thats why I like the defense first appraoch because we dont have a strong defense and we do have a strong attack you can bet with the 1 or 2 chances we might get per game we would bury one.

Do you think we can get 6 or 7 shots on target vs Japan?
Vs shitty soorakh arab teams we can and if its not the type of game where we win 2-0 then clearly these will be the problems for us.

Btw what is going on with Azmoun?! He must have Erectile Dysfunction too because he just can't finish?! If he scored half the setups he got today he would have been in running for golden boot

First off, congratulations to all true Iranians for the win.

Syria had indeed prepared well for this tournament, and they played as a tough team to beat. Their packed defensive system together with their physical presence produced a combination that was not only hard for us to breakdown but other teams like Australia and Uzbekistan faced the same. We could have finished the game in the first half, but things did not work in our favor and we missed chances after chances. But that is part of this beautiful and exciting game. Bigger teams are sometime troubled by weaker teams. We did the same to Argentina, Spain and Portugal. That said, at the end of the day what matters the most is who wins. And we won. a Win is always Win, regardless of how you obtain it.

We certainly took away a few learnings from this game and I hope we put them to good use at next game against a bigger and more dangerous opponent at least on the paper.

So, until that time, be happy and be proud of our boys. We will beat Japan and take this Cup home!

So....does he mean Sardar being unable to finish? Or Ramin frequently going from RB to LW/RW? Or Taremi diving? Or Mohebi....or ...

Yes. It was in the TV interview that he did right before the first game (sorry can't look for the source now) and he said I also want to thank all legionnaires except Azmoun for joining us and making it possible to have the right preparation...

I couldn't watch whole game as i wished as i was at work and in meeting but finishing was quite poor. Shoja played one hell of game.
Not much impressed by Saman! After game vs Palestine he was quite avg at best! And struggled vs physical team!
Sardar was poor! Sometime you wonder what happened to him?
Good choice of GN for PK taker! At the end you need a keeper to save you on this which beiro did!
Hope we beat Japan but will be damn hard with this slow team!

"I am really upset with two or three players! They made the game difficult for us. It was one of our best games, if our balls were goals, we would have won the game 5 nil. From tomorrow we will be preparing for the game with Japan. We will be even better in the game with Japan. Thank God we climbed up with all the problems." - Amir Ghaleneoi

I will start by saying this. We have tactics, and GN actually picks the right tactics. What continues to destroy him is his insane squad list and his even more crazy subs.

We actually played very well. Created lots of chances. Even after the red card we really managed the game well.
                            However we can't finish.

Now for the main reason we suffered so much this game.
Playing with your heart versus playing with you brain.
No coach can fix that issue at this level. GN can't fix that. At best you can band-aid it by playing ultra defensive and setting up a way to minimize error (at the cost of any attacking play).
GN can't fix it that Cheshmi caused 2 very bad turnovers. GN can't fix that Beiranvand tackled that Syrian player poorly. GN can't control that Taremi is still diving. These are grassroots issues and most of our players don't have the benefit of good academic learning that way. Not to mention culturally we are an emotional and sometimes histrionic people.

Go back and look at that game - it wasn't as bad as some of you make it out to be.

Beiranvand - 5/10. Giving him a poor score due to the penalty he caused.
Ramin - 5.5/10. Didn't read the game well. Lots of errors. poor crosses.
Shoja - 7.5/10. I'd give him higher but he's way too hotheaded. He's athletic and fast considering his age. Put his body on the line.
Cheshmi - 4/10 - gave away 2 chances. First penatly was started by his messup. Taremi's second yellow was also because he went up too high and no one was able to get the Syrian player on his counter except him. Cheshmi exposed the team to crtiical errors. A CB cannot do that.
Hajisafi - 8/10. He was excellent. Great distribution. Calm. Collected. As mentioned, against slow teams Hajisafi is excellent!
Ghodoos - 6.5/10 - not great, not bad. Didn't deserve to be subbed out.
Ezatollahi - 7/10 - solid play. Yeah he's physical but so was Syria. good distribution. Also got us out of some bad defensive mistakes when playing out of the back.
JB - 7.5/10 - Lots of balls won in the middle, good key passes. Could have played more. Damesh garm. His best game in a while.
Ghaedi - 6.5/10. Stops attacks with his static play. Doesn't open up and look for combo plays. Gets outmuscled. Not suitable to play against Syria. Might be ok versus Japan.
Taremi - 6/10. - first yellow was stupid. Second yellow he had no choice. No one got back to stop the Syrian counter except for him. Without his brainfart I would have given him a 7.5. Did great to draw the penalty. Lots of good combo play
Azmoun - 3.5/10 - YOu can't mess that many chances up at this level. Maybe he's thinking too much of the game or not enough.

Karim - 6.5/10 - really helped the team keep shape. Yeah he's slow, but he at least knows where to run in a 10 man situation.
Gholi - 6.5/10 - great to soak up pressure and slow down play. Needs to be more clinical.
Ebrahimi - 7.5/10 - Was really good. Won the ball. Distributed well. Ran well. Just like Hajisafi he is good against slow teams.
Mohebi - 3/10/ - did nothing good. Bad touches. Runs away from space. Can't beat a man. Really bad. Should not play. Azizi is right.
Basijboy - N/A. Was put on for penalties. Cold-blooded. I get the guy isn't popular, but GN should let him play. He's composed, defends well and adds speed to our slow midfield.

Penalties - Happy we finally got over the TM penalties curse. Those were clinical finishes. For a minute I thought Germany was taking the penalties.

That defensive approach is what is costing us every damn tournament, enough is enough.

Yes i think we can even get 10-15 shots vs Japan. We need to go into the game with the mindset of beating them, not trying ”not to lose”.

I didn't know that but it doesn't surprise me. GN's lack of technical prowess and illogical decisions aside, he is unprofessional and often negative in his interviews. I can only imagine how he acts in the locker room. Exerting negative energy and "Matalaks" is not how you motivate your players and earn their respect.
