Probably an unpopular opinion but one thing that has been quite clear since Taremi´s rise to success is that he has been given too much respect and admiration in the team. He is a fantastic player but in this tournament he hasn´t delivered. It was obvious that we played better without him vs Japan and I truly believe that one of the big factors was that he wasn´t playing.

You could clearly see players take bigger roles on the pitch when Taremi is absent. Taremi nowadays drops too far back and tries to do everything by himself which disrupts the defenders and the midfielders. The players themselves pass the ball to him when they could do something else and play football with more speed. Taremi likes to slow down the rhythm sometimes.

I understand that Ghalenoi would never drop Taremi in such a crucial game, neither would I if I was the coach but if he sees that it doesn´t work out he should atleast think about subbing him outl and give Azmoun, Ghoddos and whoever is on the wings more space and freedom.

We had a few games without Taremi in qualifiers last World Cup when Skocic had beef with him and refused to call him up. We were just as bad, remember the infamous Lebanon game where we got lucky in extra time? The reason why Taremi sometimes struggles to fit in is because of Ghalenoei playing in a 2 midfield system vs 3 and putting more pressure on him track back for us to not get overwhelmed.

The way I see it is the reason the players took on more roles is because they got unified around doing it with Taremi's red card. The penalties on Syrian match gave them a lot to think about and they were all emotional. That's why they took bigger roles.

This is not how they usually play, and Taremi ALWAYS makes us play better with his positioning even if he doesn't contribute a goal or assist he's pressing in some way. This was probably Mohebi's best game in 10 games for us, and ARJs best game in 2-3 years. Azmoun I don't even remember the last time he had a good game without Taremi being there to help him out. Maybe Senegal friendlies? Half his assists in TM are from Taremi
