Like I was thinking: Just because we beat Japan, doesn't mean it's game over - Every match has it's battles and necessary tactics...as well as some luck

Our defensive work wasn't very good - gave them way too much space, playing too open of a match

We could have been less open, allowed them a bit of the ball, stifled the midfield and just destroyed them on counters...but we chose to play an open match that resulted in end-to-end attacks, which was always going to be problamatic for defenders like Kanani and Shoja VS the speedy/skilled Afif & Almoez.

We also didn't finish the chances we had...came so close but not close enough...and it came back to bite us.

TBH we were unlucky and Qatar was very lucky: 1 goal via hardcore deflection + another super lucky bounce ends up with wide open Almoez

When you don't finish your chances and give too much space to players like Afif, you're just asking for it.

I'm gutted by this....really really unfortunate and best chance we had by far to win the cup since 76.

Hopefully we'll someday, somehow, we'll figure out this constant problem of incosistency in our performances....or maybe it just requires a world class coach.

Interesting to note that most of Asia’s top players : hwang hee Chan, Son Heung Min, Lee Kang in, Taremi, Minamino, Mitoma all bottled the knock out stages to some extent and were out done by Persian gulf Arab league players for the most part. I guess playing in Europe only counts for so much you need some sort of tactical cohesiveness to succeed for an entire tournament

It's a sad time...

It didn't go the way we wanted it to. We beat ourselves. Again. We always do. I don't want to shift blame at individual players, but this was a VERY winnable game, and we didn't execute.

I just want to say I am very proud of this team. They made us so proud when they man handled Japan.

And I also want to thank our community at PFDC that has existed for almost 30 years. Watching the last 6 asian cups with you all has made the disappointment bearable. Please take care of yourselves. When it is all said and done we are all brothers and sisters and we will always stand by Team Melli through thick and thin.

the problem is that this was our last chance to win the Asian Cup. 90% of the players won‘t play another Asian Cup again because they are 30+. Bye bye golden generation, we won‘t forget all the good memories you gave us.

Golden generation? You know how many times we have had "golden generation" and nothing came out of it? In AC 2000 we had the best players and golden generation. In AC 2004 the same haha and we went out against China in the Semis... in AC 2015 was the same we had "golden generation" and lost to Arogh. Same was in 2019. We will always have golden generation left and right. We dont need golden generation... we need players that plays smart and not sloppy/lazy.

30 years of disappointment for me and same story over and over. Nothing will ever change until The players can play with pride of a free country. We don’t invest in our football like Arabs do. It’s shocking we make it as far as we do. Shows where we can be if money is invested.
