Beiro 6 - Could've done much better on the goal. He was untested otherwise. I think his faults really overshadow his strengths. I really hope we give Niazmand a good hard look after the AC. Beiro is just too error prone. He was at fault for the last two goals we conceded.

Milad 8 - His best TM game ever. Was very good defensively, was good coming forward. Played smart (for the most part). This is the Milad we were all hoping to see throughout the years.

Kanani 8 - Rock solid defensively, and drew that 100% PK. I am more comfortable with him in possession as opposed to Shoja or Ramin.

Shoja 7 - He had a few bad giveaways but solid otherwise.

Ramin 6 - I thought he was our worst player. Really sloppy in posession.

Omid 8- TANK. I love this guy. He had a few bad passes but that's natural given how many passes he has per game. He put his joon on the line. Really good in possession mostly. Gave the team a sense of calm.

Ezat 8 - Really good game for him. Controlled the midfield with Omid. Really good technique for his size. Had a decent long range scissor kick effort.

Mohebi 8- Proved the doubters wrong. Scored a nice goal and was very good otherwise. Won many aerial battles. He is a beast physically.

JB 8 - Very good game. Put in a shift defensively. And what a PK. I wanted him to take it. It was his moment. And he didn't shy away from it, perfect PK. That play where he tackled Mitoma and showed emotion (rare for JB) was so poetic. You know it was all of those years of his Brighton frustration coming out in one play. Today, JB got the last laugh against Brighton.

Saman 7 - Worked really hard and was a constant nuisance upfront.

Sardar 7.5 - Ran his behind off, great assist, just needs to be a bit more clinical.

NEXT GAME VS UZBEK/QATAR: It is imperative Uzbek beats Qatar. I don't want to deal with the Arab mind games, home cooking refererring, etc. This will be a VERY TOUGH game for TM. Harder than the Japan game. This is prime for an "emotional let down" game where we laid everything out vs Japan and have nothing left in the tank in the semi. But we will have a healthy and rested Mehdi, and all of the bench players will be fully rested. This is definitely an Ehsan game at LB.

What I loved about this match was the fact it was just pure football and quality from both sides, and a good ref. No BS or drama, like when we play those smaller weaker nations. Hats off for both sides and the ref!

                WE DID IT!!!! WOWWWWWWW

                Here are my ratings:

Beiro: 6 I can't believe i'm saying this but he wasn't really tested could've done better on Japan's goal but it is what it is

Shoja: 8 EXCELLENT TODAY! EXCELLENT ALL CUP SO FAR. WOW!

Kanaani: 8 Won the winning pen!!! He played great too!

Milad: 9 Amazing defending from him today. I was genuinely shocked. Give me Hajsafi against Qatar but if we play Uzbekistan I want Milad for containing pacy uzbek wingers

Ramin: 8.5 It's incredible how good he is at defending when he actually stays back to defend. Did wonderful going forward as well!

Ezatolahi: 8.5 Contained Endo and the midfield so damn well! He really plays up to the level of the opponents LOL

Omid: 7 Slow but composed and calm when in possession.

Ghoddos: 7 Not his best match but he wasn't bad at all..

ARJ: 9 Absolutely one of the best matches i've seen from ARJ. Sure he had his trademark 2-3 turnovers but his defending, hustling, going forward and even some crosses were so nice. And his winning penalty was gorgeous

Mohebbi: 8.5 What a finish! He's like a faster yet dumber ARJ LOL we all owe him an apology cuz we wouldn't have won without him hahaha

Azmoun: 10 MOTM. What a performance. Absolutely dominated Tomiyasu and Itakura. Had a wonderful assist, and a world class goal barely disallowed. Held up the ball just so damn well!

Ghalenoi: 10 Thought he had a perfect game! I absolutely LOVE the no subs being used, especially considering how well we were playing in the 2nd half.

Excellent analysis, Azmoun and GN really delivered when we both needed them most. Unreal.

Agreed and the infield ref never disrupted the play and let the physical game continue which favored us greatly. VAR was questionable tho

This was the first time Azmoun delivered in a do or die game so my hat is off to him.

And I really should give it to GN as he came through. The long balls took Japan's midfield out.

                        Well done

Now let's focus on the next game who ever the F it is.

                            Tabrik be hamegi.

Thought we started as usual too deep in crunch game. Conceding early almost helped us in a way as we had to be proactive. In that time of probing at the end of first half we found the japanese weak point (diagonals aimed at mohebbi and sardar) and for the second half just kept hitting it. Second balls ghoddos was first to many and we put japanese under tremendous pressure.

                            For the players:

Beiro - 6 Pretty crappy attempt on the goal. Yeah morita managed to get 1v1 but produced a pretty poor/savable shot. Thought his work with his feet was tidy however.

Ramin - 7. Steady performance. Defensively only once in the first half he was caught out. For being aware defensively which many of us doubted he gets high marks. Maybe Japanese regret not starting mitoma. His crossing was ok, set pieces and cross field switches not so much.

Shoja - 6. At fault for the goal. Nearly at fault for a second that he tried to blame on milad even though it was his man. Poor with his distribution. Maybe feelign effects of his exertion in previous match. Should have got a PK for his shot that hit Japanese players arm, goalbound.

Kanani - 7.5. Very solid, goal was more on shoja than him. Besides that covered very well for ramin on a couple occasions and no mistakes I can remember. Plus immense play at the end to win a pk. Redemption for him following his fuck up 5 years ago.

Milad - 7. Similar to ramin, switched on defensively, at the cost of offensive contribution which was needed on a day like today.

Ezatolahi - 8 Excellent performance, always shows up for us in big matches and did so again. In the mid zone he had a huge job vs endo, morita, and co and totally held his own and then some. That shot attempt was outrageous technique, some great diagonals to the wide areas. Nearly an assist to ARJ early on as well. Huge props considering he did full 120 vs syria?

Ebrahimi - 6.5. For the first half and early second he was awful, way too slow on the ball, too slow to cover ground, no offense but looked too old to be playing at this level. Then from somewhere he caught a second wind and won an impressive number of loose balls, made some big recoveries and then changed his positioning off the ball to much higher, pressing on endo/morita with saman and totally altering the dynamic of the game.

ARJ - 7. Off the ball excellent, as expected the guy does his defensive work. For that and the PK High marks. On the ball still really poor imo. He by and large just can't beat a man, lacks speed, way too many turnovers, etc. But he is a leader and he showed it again when stepping up for the critical pk. And besides that, it must be said on the mohebbi goal he had one lovely bit of skill and sharp fwd pass to sardar.

Ghoddos - 7.5. Weirdly he seems more comfortable in that deeper role, but still caused the Japanese immense issues by being close to sardar/mohebbi for flick ons. Covered a tremendous amount off ground of the ball and went close to scoring on a few occasions.

Mohebbi - 8. Thank god he is in EU and please stay there as that is the only hope for him making the most of his clear physical abilities. The guy is strong like an ox, very fast, super awkward in the air and can score goals. His issues start when he takes more than 3 touches or takes those touches laterally towards the center of the pitch. Stick to the line, and he can beat most guys for speed or a quick 1-2. His run making from out to in WITHOUT the ball is very impressive and got him his goal which was a beautiful finish.

Sardar - 8.5. MOTM. Killed it. Quiet in first half as we couldn't find him enough but in the second his assist to mohebbi was pure quality, his aerial presence tormented the japanese, and his goal (Which I believe was ONSIDES despite what the VAR Review showed us, there was another defender who was keeping him ON) was stunningly clinical. He orchestrated the press with saman and omid very smartly in the second half and ran his ass off in general for loose balls, any japanese mistakes.

Those that talk shit about him in the MANNER they do on here really don't have a clue about this sport. Lazy? yes. mentality questionable? Yes. But quality? Never in doubt. Kind of the exact opposite of ARJ. but today, he showed up when his team needed him. TBH quite similar to his performance vs wales in the WC where he ran them absolutely ragged. Unlike the WC, he is in better shape and not coming off a bad injury so he should be good to go the distance this tourney, esp with GN keeping him on ice for the first couple games.

Ghalenoi - Well, he stuck with oldies with the hope that on judgement day they would pull through for him. And they did. Credit to him for recognizing the weak point of japanese and spamming it in second half. Japanese could not deal with our physical superiority. Yes, they clearly are having issues but we FORCED them to be that bad. The pressing in second half was brilliant and resulted in the consistent pressure that won us the match. Defensive setup and choice of mohebbi despite him probably being shot on confidence (and managing to get him mentally ready for the shift he put in today) was a big call and one he got right. And somehow by keeping Torabi, Gholi, Ghayedi, Hajsafi, Taremi all off the pitch he has quite a few fully rested players for reasonable rotation of the xi vs qatar/uzbekistan.
