Iran vs Qatar post game thread and players rating

This was an emotional loss today for team melli fans for sure, but I really hope we don’t go after our players & coach with pitchforks and torches.

There is no justice in football. We outplayed Qatar, dominated posession, had more shots, had 12 corners to their 1! But the ball didn’t bounce our way…

GN made excellent adjustments at halftime, and the last 20-30 minutes, it reminded me of the Japan game, where we were aggressively knocking on the door.

I only have 3 complaints:
1. Taremi was a ghost, severely underperformed (all on him)
2. Gholizadeh should’ve made an appearance
3. Team getting cocky when we scored the first goal, then being shellshocked after their 1st goal

Again, GN can’t put the ball in the back of the net. Overall, he set up the team for success, we just didn’t capitalize.

To the people who are livid that we lost to “weak” Qatar:
-This was Qatar’s best game of the tournament
-From all the Asian giants, we definitely played the best and got the farthest

Are there flaws in our team? 100%. But to be honest, I like the overall direction GN is going with team melli, and I’m sure, he will begin incorporating younger players till the next world cup.

I have followed Team Melli since 1996 AC and when we played Australia in the playoff for the last wc spot for France 98 and had 90% antiklimax.

I just realised how RARE it is to feel real joy as a Team melli fan, 28 years and i can count the happy times on only one hand.

Ac 1996 = demolished Saudi 3-0 and South Korea 6-2 in the group and lost to Saudi in PK in the semis. Antiklimax

Wc 98= A brainfart Nakisa that cost us the Yugoslavia game that in the end cost us the r16 . Antiklimax ( the USA win was sweet tho).

Wcq 2002 campaign = Total heartbreak whit the best ever iranian team that chokes against Bahrain and loses 3-1 that sends us to playoff whit Ireland instead of directly to the Wc who knocks us out and we miss wc 2002 whit the best squad we ever had. Antiklimax

Asian cup 2004= Chokes in the semis against China after a amazing win over South Korea 4-3 in the quarterfinal. Antiklimax

Wc 2006= Total disaster whit on paper a competent team whit a bundesliga backbone. Antiklimax

Ac 2007= Choke against South Korea in PK in the quarterfinal. Antiklimax

Wcq 2010 campaign = Total disaster and ends up fourth in a group whit South Korea, North Korea, Saudi and UAE and missed Wc 2010. Antiklimax

Ac 2011= Choke against South Korea in quarterfinal in AET. Antiklimax

Wc 2014= Choke in the last minute and lose the game against Argentina and missed 3 golden chanses to score in the game and gets demolished by Bosnia in the do or die game . Antiklimax

Ac 2015= Chokes against Iraq on penalties in the quarterfinal. Antiklimax

Wc 2018= Taremi chokes and misses the golden chanse against portugal to send us to the r16. Antiklimax

Ac 2019 = Chokes against Japan and get demolished 3-0 in the semifinal.Antiklimax

Wc 2022= Gets demolished by England 6-2 and chokes against USA and loses 1-0 when we only needed a DRAW to go to the r16 för the first time ever. Antiklimax

Ac 2023= Chokes against Qatar in the semifinal 3-2 and pissed away the easiest semifinal and potential final in decades to lift the trophy after 48 years. ANTIKLIMAX!!

We need fundemental changes that only can come whit a new government that is willing to invest in things that will help us erase our poor unstable chokementality.

The other 10% joy is for example the japan win, morocco win , Australia win in playoff, very rare moments of joy.

I am again so emotionally drained , you think it will be easier whit time, but damn I was wrong 💔

Hope GN is fired, for all the talk of analysis before and during the game we saw no change of tactic worth mentioning. Also the players were flat & ununspired against qatar, that is the role of the coach to keep them focused & inspired...he failed and made a qatar team that couldnt even hold the ball look much better than they were. Lets get a proper coach please.

Dude, are you telling me you don't enjoy conceding lots of tokhmi goals? What's the matter with you? I want us to just play a 0-0-10 formation from now on, so we can score more goals, who cares if we concede 30 goals a game, at least it's more fun to have everyone attacking!

There is a mentality problem with our people, there's a reason we've never had a defender reach the heights of Daei, Karimi, etc. Everyone has this warped sense that the only way to play football is attack, attack, attack and anything less than that is cowardly and weak. My hope is that some kids in Iran grew up under CQ's reign and maybe got some interest in the defensive aspect of the game, and we'll have our own star defender someday. As of now, we're doomed to guys who probably all played center forward in youth level converted to defenders playing for us, and we'll continue to screw up and choke. It's not choking when you literally have so many examples, it's just us at this point. We are the choke.

we had a big aura of cockiness against Syria and Hong Kong thought we could just win easily because we are Iran . There are no easy games in Asia and this years competition proved it but really

The reason people bring up CQ and Shah is not because we want them back, it's to make a case that we had better previously and should strive for progress not regression. The attitude that we should just shut up and be happy with what we have will never allow us to progress forward. GN is a regressive step, he is not an upgrade to CQ, and nobody can make any argument based in reality for that to be the case. Even if you want to argue he's a lateral step, we should not be okay with that. We should demand something better, and we should demand better in other aspects of our lives as Iranians as well. This shouldn't be controversial, but some are just okay going with the path of least resistance. We'll be stuck like this forever if we continue on that path.

A japan/sk or even Iran would have brought much more audience than two nobody teams.

Japan, sk and at a lesser extent iran have a good group of legionnaires in good clubs in Europe. It is like that that this shitty Afcon get much audience. Qatar was so pathetic in front of the world in 2022, that it makes it so bad it won the ac19 and is at leat finalist in 2024
