Were you alive for when we were losing games to Bahrain the same as today?

I was only a kid, but I was alive and have been following TM since 98. But I mostly remember the Branko era. Our gameplan with GN is an exact carbon copy of Brankos playbook. Lob the ball and hope to score a header. It was the same under Ghotbi and same under Skokic.

Only two things have changed:

1. No more glorious moustaches.
2. Asia has progressed to 2024 while we are still living in the late 90s to early 2000s.

So we ourselves have basically changed only in one area, and that is facial hair.

GN changing things at half time is a sign of a good coach. A lot of managers would have played it out for another 10/15mins and then change.
but he saw that his team were being dominated from minute 5 till 45 and made changes.
not only that, the changes worked and we deserved to win, had 2 of our chances gone in and Qatar didn’t get a lucky goal we would all be saying GN with a tactical masterclass.

Another point, the likes of haji Safi should be the bigger man and RETIRE and not say “I’m here until the team needs me” . In this case he will be picked until he is 40 years old and has 250 caps!
in less than 2 month we have 2 games back to back against Turkmenistan.
our next squad should be the squad we are looking to take to the WC in 2 years.
we don’t need haji safi at left back or Karim coming in for the final 10mins.
I don’t follow IPL unfortunately but bring in our best left and right back (until moharami is back) from the league.
sayyadmanesh would terrorise any Asian right back, stick him on our left wing.

we have a strong core, we can keep the likes of majid, ezatolahi, ghoddos, azmoun, jahanbaksh, moharami. These are all experienced players who play in Europe . Stick some youngsters next to them for the next 2 years and take this team to the next World Cup !

Your demeanor makes me feel like you are one of those ppl that thinks that aiming for the lowest possible result just to get by will be enough, I mean theoretically yes 1 win 1 lose 1 tie will get us through as the best 3rd place finisher where you possibly have to play against a Brazil or France in the round of 32 ?!?

if you aim low you don’t even make it, most times , we have to raise the aim a little bit higher if you ask me

What you are saying about Iranian maturing late isn’t factual , did you look at the under17 team at the World Cup in Indonesia, they seemed mature enough as 16 years olds , the ideal age for any athlete is 22 to 27 the average age of Team Melli today was 32 , in 2 years time this TM will have an average age of 34 ?!?!?

Other nations spend and invest more money on soccer...I am being realistic because I know our football system.making r32 is a accomplishment
for how much is invested in football.going pass that is a miracle.

how many minutes did we even test this younger players ,;

to know if they are good enough or not Hajsafi has had 142 caps already he doesn’t need anymore experience

My question to you is how can we ever know if they good enough or not if we don’t test them in these friendly games ; for example the games against Afghanistan or krygzystan let all these young players play see where they really stand ???

every young player needs to start somewhere, they need a chance to show themselves…

Why we need Taremi(81 caps) or Sardar(80 caps) or kanani(39 caps) or khalizadeh (51 caps) or Karim ansarifard( 108 caps) or Jahanbakash(82 caps) to play in these meaningless games ????

These are issues that a coach like GN can’t see , and doesn’t understand well enough ; the intricacies and delicacies of modern day coaching , the incorporation and deletion…to have the balls and take risks, will give you the biggest rewards in the end , if we risk on the side of youth , it be a win win , risk on the side of mature players will just be a win or a lose … nothing is gained .

Team was not focused on the match. Everyone looked scattered, nervous, not calm, long ball bekesh ziresh maybe 20 times in the last half of the game. It was hard to watch.

You could tell for some reason the team was not mentally in the game.

I was never big fan of GN, and still think there are at minimum 3 other managers (Yahya, Rabei, and Nekonam if you ignore his shitty personality) in Iran who are tactically better...

With that said, he did a good job this tourney, we played with a plan this tournament, and deserves to keep his job until the world cup. His record is very impressive with team melli (this was our first loss under him) and even though we lost against Qatar, his 2nd half adjustments were the correct ones. We lost this game on the margin.
We have two WCQ matches coming up next month and need at minimum 5 new players introduced to the roster.

Things that need improving if we keep him:
- Better coaching staff... like legit, wtf is Ando doing on the bench? how is your first coaching gig a national team job?
- He needs to delegate press conferences to someone else
- Hajsafi, Karim, Ramin, Shoja, Rouzbeh need phasing out.
