Longballs? You mean the most outdated, tokhmi and useless plan that no team has successfully used to win anything in decades? We literally call it aliasghari for a reason, and this tournament was the definition of aliasghari by us. We were lucky that Japan was in worse shape tactically than us to win that game. Fire this jabroni general, divert some of our people's stolen cash from killing people to pay a coach with a brain, and I think we will be in good shape. I agree with everyone here that we'll never win anything with the current corruption permeating Iran, but at least we can watch some decent quality football and not have heart failure/strokes playing lowly Arab teams in the future. I'm okay losing to Japan/Korea when they're playing well. I'm not okay struggling against Syria and losing to Qatar. We had a path of Syria-Japan-Qatar-Jordan. Literally can't get easier with Japan as the only difficult team, and somehow we blew it. Think about that.
Hervé is a good coach, his tactical and mental preparation is awesome. However, he won't stay more than a day if he's not paid on time and all the usual issues that comes up with being Iran's coach + he requires big money.

I doubt that it's the right choice, it may lead to a Wilmots 2.0 but I reckon a better coach.

What game did we play nice football again? Second half against Japan? We let in a goal every game except Hong Kong (which was a horrible game for us). Our opponents were not really worldbeaters either. Idk, I personally miss the days where we held our opponents to 0 shots on target, but I guess some like watching us get scored on? I feel like sucking the soul out of your opponent and not letting them have a decent look at goal all game is much better than getting scored on by Palestine and Syria (and eating 3 from Qatar), but hey, that's just one guys opinion. Again, I hope all of you enjoyed today, much more of that to come with General Garbage helming the team!

Similar to Korea, our individual quality got us to the semi-finals and when it came down to the coach giving instructions that went beyond the individual in an important game, Ghalenoie failed.

The coach of Qatar El Matador-e-Kachal out-couched Amirkhan. Qatar had a game plan, they had a lot of luck, but they had a good plan to put our slow midfield and defence under pressure with the right people. More importantly, we now have two important years ahead of us, namely the reorganisation of the team, in which hopefully Hajisafi, Beiranvand, Shoja, Kanaani, Ramin, Omid, Karim Khan and Cheshmi will leave us.

But Ghalenoei is definitely the wrong man for this upheaval, we now have to build a new, much younger team around Ghoddos, Taremi, Sardar, JB, Moharrami, Ezzat, Gholi va Ghayedi. And after the WC, say bye to JB, Taremi & Saman. Next AC will be then the last chance of Sardar.

I understand it's a fantasy given how Iran is, but until we are in a position to spend money on things that actually matter (hopefully with better leadership in our country generally soon), then we will be miserable forever. Our prize money from these tournaments should be paying for a good coach instead of being pocketed by some big ugly IR goon who I'm sure has a unibrow and brown teeth, but alas, that is what we are dealing with.

            This.

Who are the alternatives? If it's domestic coaches, then probably keep GN.

But if IFF will actually conduct a legit coaching search for a experienced and respected European (or South American) coach (which is doubtful), then the answer is obvious.

Playing against a well drilled defence 11-0 isnr allwayz beautiful. We did good those games aswell. Look at argemtina, spain nigeria vs us. We played well, its the mental thing we lost on. Again. Today we Lost 35 minjtes im 1 half and went another one behind. Last goal was atleast footballi. Missed offside trap opportinity late im the game. Probably burned to much focus-energy during the game on tje ref, or wouldnhave veen more rhere and quivkernup the pitch. Overall, i had a good time during this AC. We powerplay dominamve vs them aswell, with 10 men. But to late.

Spain, Argentina and Nigeria didn't concede 3 to us. If we gave Qatar 2 or 3 close chances and they scored none and we won 1-0, then I agree, that would've been normal for such more powerful teams playing a weaker team with compact defense. We got 3 scored on us, we were essentially destroyed defensively, which I don't understand what you're comparing to tbh. We played like dogcrap this tournament, and if it weren't for Pooladi in 2015 and Japan mental collapse/stronger Japan squad in 2019, we struggled much more in every game of this tournament than 2015 and 2019 combined. I can't remember us having such trouble with minnows previously. Show me which games like Syria, Hong Kong and Qatar we played in 2015 and 2019, I can't remember any.

Dude, we struggled versus UAE and Iraq in 2015.
We struggled versus Vietnam, Iraq, Oman and Japan in 2019.
We struggled versus HKG, Syria and now Qatar in 2023.

It's not a simple CQ versus GN thing.

I have long balls, high pressure tactics over tokhmi ali express version of Mourinho's and Simeone's park the tactics all day every day.

At least with the first you try to make your own luck, the latter you're praying not to get scored on and the other team to score an own goal or something.

What? In 2019 we beat Vietnam 2-0, tied Iraq when neither team was trying in the final match since we were assured first place (never were in danger of losing either game, I watched both live. We gave a tokhmi penalty against Oman and won 2-0, literally conceded none in those 3 games. Some of you need to stop the hashish or whatever you're smoking. Idk how clean sheets where the other team has 1 or 2 opportunities is considered "struggling". You wanted us to win 8-0 each of those? Japan, I concede we were the worse team with mistakes in 2019 (although I think we got screwed on Pouraligangi penalty which has happened the same in multiple games this tournament and not called a penalty, and a last minute goal when we'd given up).

Iraq game in 2015, everyone just needs to shut up about, we got screwed 100% by Ben Williams in that game, and we still almost won and fought back down a man for 90 minutes (unlike today where we went out with a whimper).

Anything I'm missing? Oh, UAE in 2015? Again, a last game of the group stage we already won, in which we didn't concede any goals in the whole group (including from Bahrain and Qatar who we just lost to by getting 3 choopooned up our you know whats?) Seriously, I need some of what you are all smoking so I can be in la la land after this humiliating tournament.

The thing about this generation is that we always play to our opponent's level. It's great in situations where we're the underdogs, but when we play teams that we should be beating by 1 or 2 more goals we barely seem to do that. This whole tournament barring Palestine is a great example of this.

Dude, I was watching those same games, and fans were tearing the hair out of their heads with every single half-chance the opponents had.

I expect a more open team to face more chances.

                            I'm not expecting perfection.

Enjoy it! My non-Iranian friends who followed us are asking me why Iran was so bad defensively, when they used to rave about us previously, but the chains are off! BeAUteefUL fOtbAAL we played!! Congrats on the aliasghari, I truly truly am 100% honest in that I hope Vatani coaches stay and you all enjoy the products of your football intelligence! More aliasghari and losing to Arabs please! Thank you sir, you earned todays result too

Based off his post match statements and talking about how he wants to call up younger players, I think we recall him...
