You need a tactician minded coach to succeed. When his excuses are "I didn't wanna touch the winning team" and "footballeh digeh" in response to why our defense was so bad, do you really wanna see this guy take us to the world cup?

Exactly, let's pretend for a minute that his technical and tactical knowledge is up to date and on par with modern football (which it isn't) ; however, his mindset and attitude is still clearly outdated. To be a great manager at this level you need to have social engineering skills and be able to uplift and motivate your players and gain their respect.

Like many Iranians, He suffers from deeply rooted cultural issues when it comes to behavior and negative patterns of thinking that unless you had an above average upbringing and/or you traveled/lived in other parts of the world, got educated and familiarized yourself with other cultures and their perspectives - your personality will more or less stay the same and you will never improve as a person. That's why having people like Nekounam, Mahdavikia, Daie, Hashemian, etc. as an Irooni coach will always work out better than having someone like Ghalenoie or Mayeli Kohan who never played abroad.

His record at being the winningest iranian coach in IPL history argues against your point on motivation.

i firmly think we need a modern european coach, but to all those saying keep ghhalenoi, since when do we concede goals to hong kong? Our team and coaching should be embarassed for giving up not 1, but TWO goals to them. And not to mention they had other chances as well. This is unacceptable.

It's wasn't even from HK being good either, all the goals we concede are from mistakes like deflections, miscommunication, players knocking into each other, weird shape/structure.

I would understand if it was here and there but when all the goals we concede are from CLEAR mistakes then it's not a player problem but a coaching/instruction problem.

Guys... A single loss in 20 matches. Won 17 of those!

I'm not a big fan of the guy, but come on... You can't just sack winning coaches because of a couple of bad matches.

how many of those did we win because of Azmoun/Taremi and how many of them was it because GN had a masterplan? Skocic had the same record but we could all see something wrong with the way we played. Any coach in charge of TM would have the same record unless they were extremely incompetent like Wilmots. GN is enough for these minnows but we will never go far in big moments with him

GN takes a team with some fresh faces a couple of days after the end of the league...to a foreign country to play official matches. He plays the new faces allowing them to be tested, overcoming his conservatism so that we can have a balanced team for WC.

We won the game, youth get valuable experience, coaches get better view of their strengths and weaknesses.

                    So it's all good.

This is what you guys wanted: the team play very tight. No personal mistakes. New defenders play like old experienced TM pros. Your feathers are ruffled because of a few personal mistakes leading to HK scoring against the mighty Iran.

Meanwhile England, top 5 team in the world loses to Iceland on the eve of a major tournament.

GN is not a world class coach and will never be one, but he is doing somethings right and Still gets blamed for the player's shortcomings.

After cafa and jordan tournament said this defense is solakh...general promised to fixed it.
And he wasn't able do it with current staff he has.
He got second chance because of japan match and he is refusing to change his staff to fix the defense.....it's not about young player or old player
His defensive structure sucks......uzbakistan is his last chance that's why taj showed up to practice.
General is dummy to go down with likes of nasser ebrahimi ,saeed al and macaroni...taj mamma didn't raised no fool for taj to go down because of general.....

General should be fired regardless of what happens with Uzbek game!

This man has no knowledge of modern football and is unable to fix any of TM existing problems. He is there for one reason only and that is he wants to prove he is somebody.

He only knows hurrah hurrah style of football which he labels in his own simple mind as Futbal e Tahajomi as though that is really a style!

He is also surrounded by a bunch of wanna bes who also think they know how to build, brand and coach a national team.

I don't know how many games he has been the coach so far but totall incapable of fixing our defense and is getting worse instead of getting better.

If general think a tie will win group and save his job he is wrong.

Since in real competition wcq and ac he will be judge ..base on his records vs note worthy opponents.

                          That's 4 matches
                          Uzbakistan 2-2
                          Japan 2-1
                          Qatar 2-3
so a draw vs uzbk will make his record

                          1 win
                          1 lost
                          2 draw

from possible 12 pt he got 5pt = FIRED

A win will save his job.

used same metric on skocic to turn on him too
                          2 match vs s.k
From 6 possible points he got 1=FIRED

I always say this... stats don't tell the full story. Name me one time he defeated a quality/decent opponent CONVINCINGLY.... Maybe Japan? Then again we won via a last second penalty with some luck.

His defending is terrible and he's only won most matches because his opponents are even worse. ..
Key word is "most"... Think of Uzbekistan, Qatar, even going Kong with our struggles there
