    Third Round 2026 Qualifiers

Alrighty so we are basically done with the second Round and we are nearing to the third round as it starts in September. We will find out our group on the 27th of June.

As of now, based on my research it seems we will for sure avoid Japan and South Korea in the next round. Here is why: There will be 3 groups of six nations this time, and the group selection will be made from 6 pots of 3 nations.

    Pot 1: Iran, Japan, SK
    Pot 2: Australia, Qatar, Saudi
    Pot 3: Iraq, Uzbekistan, UAE
    Pot 4: Jordan, Oman, Bahrain
Pot 5: China, Palestine, North Korea
    Pot 6: Kuwait, Indonesia, Malaysia

I think it’s safe to to say everything from Pot 1-4 is already guaranteed

For Pots 5&6 Syria could upset Japan and make it but I just dont see Japan making a mistake at home and NK will blast past Myanmar at home for sure. Let’s hope FIFA or AFC dont ban NK. They have improved a lot and give me 2010 vibes but still better than annoying Syrians. For Kuwait I think it’s perfectly set up for them to beat Afg at home and I don’t see India getting a result in Qatar and Arabs will always help each other in these cases. Really hope that Afg will cause the upset but just being realistic here. Indonesia will be playing at home vs last place Philippines while Vietnam go to Basra and Iraq won’t lose to Vietnam in Basra. For Malaysia it’s a bit of wildcard since they have the edge in head to head vs Kyrgyzstan who choked today and they will have an easy last game vs Taipei at home while Kyrgyzstan goes to Oman. Kyrgyzstan could pull of something vs Oman but I’m willing to bet against this.

So with all that said let’s get into our potential groups:
worse case: Iran, Saudi, Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, Kuwait.

Way too nerve racking, dirty plays, shady calls, hostile away environments.

Best Case: Iran, Qatar, UAE, Oman, China, Indonesia

Stull some hostile environments but historically and recently we have always bested most of these teams. Also want revenge against Qataris. Oman is much less of an hostile opponent va the likes of Bahrain and Jordan.

This is based on GN being the coach btw. If we get Golmo or someone actually decent then I’d feel confident regardless. But I dont see us doing an undefeated run this time for sure with Ghalegohi.

    let me know your thoughts.

I don't want n.k and that travel match day at pyng pyng....
Games there have feeling of at any moment a firing squad will start shooting everyone including their own players...Even though both countries have close relationships and tm is treated with respect there all the time , it just a nerve racking
atmosphere to watch for 90 minutes.

March 2005. World Cup Qualifier vs NK.

Iran won 2-0. After 1st goal, NK had penalty shout not given. Then few minutes later Iran scored 2nd goal. The fans threw things at Syrian referee and then STORMED the field driving players into locker room.

Zandi had gone from Kaiserslautern to playing Call of Duty North Korean Zombies in one month time and had chair ready.

Mahdavikia was ready to do last stand of the mighty unibrow

Branko said it was scariest experience of his life more than relying on his bench

whats even funnier is IFF didn’t file a complaint because they didn’t want our opponents to use it as an excuse not to visit.

It's time to finally meet Australia. They've joined AFC in 2007 and both teams haven't met each other yet. I would be satisfied with Saudis too but only if we don't get UAE or Bahrain. Both are Saudi's dogs and would lose on purpose to them. In general, a new opponent would be exciting. I am tired of South Korea, Uzbekistan and Qatar. Thankfully we can at least avoid South Korea.

My ideal group would look like this: Iran, Australia, Iraq, Oman, China, Malaysia

                        My ideal group=

                        Iran
Australia( we have not faced them in almost 30 years)
UAE ( shity team and weaker than Iraq)
Bahrain ( We dont have a mental barrier against them anymore since we f ed them in 2022 in manama, and also because Oman is a much better team)
North korea ( weaker than China)
                        Malaysia
