Alrighty so we are basically done with the second Round and we are nearing to the third round as it starts in September. We will find out our group on the 27th of June.
As of now, based on my research it seems we will for sure avoid Japan and South Korea in the next round. Here is why: There will be 3 groups of six nations this time, and the group selection will be made from 6 pots of 3 nations.
Pot 1: Iran, Japan, SK
Pot 2: Australia, Qatar, Saudi
Pot 3: Iraq, Uzbekistan, UAE
Pot 4: Jordan, Oman, Bahrain
Pot 5: China, Palestine, North Korea
Pot 6: Kuwait, Indonesia, Malaysia
I think it’s safe to to say everything from Pot 1-4 is already guaranteed
For Pots 5&6 Syria could upset Japan and make it but I just dont see Japan making a mistake at home and NK will blast past Myanmar at home for sure. Let’s hope FIFA or AFC dont ban NK. They have improved a lot and give me 2010 vibes but still better than annoying Syrians. For Kuwait I think it’s perfectly set up for them to beat Afg at home and I don’t see India getting a result in Qatar and Arabs will always help each other in these cases. Really hope that Afg will cause the upset but just being realistic here. Indonesia will be playing at home vs last place Philippines while Vietnam go to Basra and Iraq won’t lose to Vietnam in Basra. For Malaysia it’s a bit of wildcard since they have the edge in head to head vs Kyrgyzstan who choked today and they will have an easy last game vs Taipei at home while Kyrgyzstan goes to Oman. Kyrgyzstan could pull of something vs Oman but I’m willing to bet against this.
So with all that said let’s get into our potential groups:
worse case: Iran, Saudi, Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, Kuwait.
Way too nerve racking, dirty plays, shady calls, hostile away environments.
Best Case: Iran, Qatar, UAE, Oman, China, Indonesia
Stull some hostile environments but historically and recently we have always bested most of these teams. Also want revenge against Qataris. Oman is much less of an hostile opponent va the likes of Bahrain and Jordan.
This is based on GN being the coach btw. If we get Golmo or someone actually decent then I’d feel confident regardless. But I dont see us doing an undefeated run this time for sure with Ghalegohi.
let me know your thoughts.
