I'm his biggest fan in the world and still think he will succeed however last night was his worst performance in an Inter shirt. He does not look hungry, he doesn't try as hard as he used to in Porto and was really disappointing yesterday. Forget the stats, he was given a chance against a mediocre team and had to take it but need nothing to justify his selection. The TNT sports commentators in the UK said after half time that they were surprised that he was still on the pitch despite his very poor performance. I really hope he starts to do better, otherwise he will lose his spot as 3rd choice striker and rightly so as well. Inzaghi has been very kind and patient with him ...

he has played a total of 392 minutes in a total of 15 matches in Serie A until now - that is a little more than 4 games in total - and has scored 0 goals
at the same time in his first season in Porto he played 751 minutes in a total of 15 matches, around 8 games in total - and had scored 7 goals
so basically he played double the amount of league matches and also against much lower quality opponents
I think the goals will come, jus not in that amount

Our excitement for finally having an iranian in a top european team also comes with the implication that they would create exciting moments for us.
We didn't do so with the hopes of watching 400 minutes of him pressing defenders and making the occasional sideways passes, missing sooti's, and getting roasted by commentators.
Unfortunately it looks like we will have to wait another generation to see something truly exciting.

His current situation at Inter is not something you can make sense of or justify by simply looking at his Porto stats. His playing career's hit its plateau already and it's headed downhill now. There's been enough of a sample size this season to say he is past his prime.

Its not that serious, he still has moments of brilliance. He literally showed last week in the Milan game that he's still got it. He's just not a good fit at Inter. He was also never going to bench Lautaro/Thuram like others here suggested. Thuram has 45 g/a in his last 50 Serie A games, his value is almost $120 million.
We have to decide:
1. Do you want 33 year old Mehdi Taremi to be stay at big team as rotational striker who gets occasional starts and limited minutes (more longevity)
2. Do you want him to move to a lower tier team where he can start contributing more as a full time starting player when he is nearly 34 years old.
there is no having both, no top team is gonna buy a 33 year old and start them full time. I personally think he should ride Inter's bench till retirement, they will keep him next year because his salary is super low.
Either way enjoy the last 2-3 seasons of seeing him because we don't have anyone else lined up for TM who is gonna give half the qualities he gives

You guys are missing the bigger picture
Mehdi plays better in a 4-2-3-4-6-2-1 formation, but in the league they always play a 4-2-3-4-6-2-2 formation. Furthermore, if you pay close attention, the days he plays in the league, wind is blowing at about 25 degrees in the east direction, when we all know he plays better when the wind is blowing at 24 degrees in the west direction. Furthermore, we wanted him to play against easy opponents to get in the rhythm, not giants like Venezia or Empoli. Have you forgotten that Empoli won the serie C title in 1928. The man is running on the field and also passing the ball occasionally to players next to him. What else you want?

I was reading a few match reports of Taremi a few years ago...
His poor finishing has not changed. What has changed is he was not afraid to take wild shots. He was always hungry.
Now he is constantly cautious. He needs to believe he is better than all of his teammates. Once he's an arrogant monster, he'll be better.
