I don't understand this attitude, only focusing on 3 pts and nothing else. Are we gonna blame bad pitch at the world cup too? Or let me guess we're gonna find something else to blame like diaspora fans chanting against TM after our inevitable loss?

Do you get enjoyment from seeing TM collapse every other game? Or do you lack the foresight to see that playing like this means a quick WC exit and awful performance at AC? What's the point of winning now and losing later?

Genuinely asking because too many people are constantly making excuses for these performances under GN which makes absolutely no sense. It's a CLEAR regression from even just 3-4 years ago.

This team is capable of so much more with some decent game management and proper defensive transitions.

It's not too late man....we have 2 years left if we bring in a more competent foreign coach. GN was never supposed to be here this long, he was a stop gap solution after CQ.

The only upside of this shitshow is that I got to watch a TM with my mom for the first time since the 2018 game against Morocco.

This epitomizes the ongoing issue with TM that I've observed in their gameplay. Winning seems to suffice, regardless of the method. Taremi's indifferent demeanor during the penalty kick suggested a lack of concern. Such players ought to be expelled from TM permanently. Our team faces significant challenges, and while we may qualify for the World Cup from arguably the weakest Asian group to date, it's not indicative of success. Considering the current level of play and attitude, I would rank this team below Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, and Australia. As with previous World Cups, I anticipate an early exit.

From our starting line up today, only 2 players play in Europe, Taremi (Inter) and Mohebi (Rostov), rest are in the Middle East!

it wasnt long ago that we would have at least 7 players from the starting 11 playing in Europe...

How did I make excuses? I am just saying, it is what it is and we got the result. I want a Jurgen Klopp instead of a GN. I want a half decent democracy in Iran instead of theocracy. I want us to focus on developing players from k-9 and to have a real high school and college path for boys and girls. I want a lot of things, but it is what it is. There is no sense in whining about things that are not under your control. Until you have the power to change the systemic and fundamental issues, there is no point in even discussing any of this. GN is not even the best coach we have in Iran right now, but he acts cool with the Gov. and doesn't speak up so he gets the job.

I don't know how old you are but I didn't start watching TM since 2018 or anything. We've always been our own worst enemy (post revolution) and it's never been about the players. It's always been the broken youth system, politics, federation, etc. so just sit back and enjoy the positive side of the game & khoone khodeto kasif nakon.

Can we stop to think, who in their right mind put GN in charge , and whoever did that should wake the Hell up quickly ,,,,

this game , like I said before TM will qualify no problem to the World Cup even without a coach , it is at the World Cup what can we really do , with this squad and coach ,,,,

yes the other Asian teams are struggling a bit cause they have gone young , I watched Australia vs Saudi, both teams have changed a lot of new faces , even from the Asian cup you can tell they both , getting ready for the World Cup

but we still playing Old Shoja and khar mahgonlou, we have 3 young players who would have turn this game around , but GN choose to do stilly ass substitutes , no logic at all …

I disagree with the hot takes here.

We got a stupid red card, not because Khalilzadeh f***ed up but rather Nemati. Nemati got caught in no man's land again (like the Qatar game), and the path to goal was clear.
If he had been in line to catch the runner - ref would have at most given Shoja a yellow and game would have resumed usual flow.

It's on GN that he starts a turtle like Ezatollahi against a team that relies completely on combo play and speed.
                Karimi was invisible.

MIDFIELDERS ARE SUPPOSED TO WIN DUELS AND CLOSE DOWN SPACE.

Some of the fans have completely lose it:
Praising Karimi when he did nothing even when we were up 3-0.
Bashing Taremi when he had 3 lovely assists, got a penalty (yeah he missed), and is the only creative outlet we have on this team.
Completely forgetting we're playing away against North Korea that spends months in camps, playing us with a man up, in a humid energy sapping weather, on a pitch that made Fooladshahr look good, after a cross continental flight, with 2 scrappy goals putting them back into it.
There is a reason alot of people half-seriously say 3-0 is the most dangerous lead.

My biggest issue with GN is his inability to fix the massive empty zone in front of our defense. Either crowd the midfield, or bring in a classic DM, because Ezatollahi and Karimi can't win the ball back.
The number of chances we gave away was mostly due to this, even with 10 men.

Overall good 3 points. That's what matters.

None of the stuff you guys are worried about will resolve itself unless a diamond in the rough CM/DM comes up in Iranian football.

I am very disappointed with Taremi and his penalty kick. You would think all those years in Europe would teach him to aim further up if you want to kick right in the middle, this way the keeper has little to no chance of saving it with his foot.

We really needed that extra cushion the way the team had fallen apart and was under extreme pressure.

I have to disagree. Are you really going to make excuses for a team loaded with talent and resources going up against North Korea? Just because the North Korean players have been in camp for months and may be used to the weather doesn’t justify the result. And by the way, the "dangerous lead" you’re referring to is actually 2-0, not 3-0.

and here is the attitude after final whistle. after almost throwing away 3-0 lead. after both failing to score again. they don’t give a f***.

                          What excuses. It's football.

Is North Korea supposed to roll over for us?
We were up 3-0 and then got a red card and everything that could go right for Korea did.

We need to stop this attitude of thinking teams are beneath us.
In my whole time supporting TM - we underperform against weak and same level teams, and then perform well (usually) against better teams.

She does, but we just haven't had the chance to watch one together since I moved countries.

She's visiting me now so the perfect opportunity.

Look at his penalty record man. It's pretty damn good. Not even the best go through it without missing one ore two.
