certainly seems a much more complex situation than the Hageswa, Beitashour and Davari situations - those had at least one parent who had an Iranian passport and said parent was alive with prove that they were born there - beitashour's mum was still traveling regularly to iran even was there during his debut.

here we have one grandparent who is sadly dead who's documents relating to him are still missing as of two days ago - how quickly this gets resolved is anyones guess . This is definitely the most complex situation involving a dispora player in TM's history. The lack of family in Iran he has also means that its essentially up to the Aunt to find what's needed.

Luckily his aunt has 1 million insta followers and is clearly high ranking member of society. What I mean is she has a higher chance of figuring this out with her resources compared to average family member living in iran. Also, there were some talks here about her being related somewhow to Ali parvin through marriage or something. He can help too

option 1: this doesn’t happen

option 2: this process will take a long time and will not be taken seriously until it’s crunch time (World Cup) and he will eventually be invited for the last set of qualification games OR during the final friendlies leading up to World Cup. March window seems too good to happen

his overall personality comes across rather dry n unexcitable/unemotional which is as zeGerman (un-iranian) as it gets ..!
but you can still tell how excited he is still @ still slim prospects of possibly becoming an iran international/playing at WC..!

his closing comments which was was about his utter surprise and pure delight at how many iranians have already shown interest/love for him on social media regardless of still slim chance of him getting an official invite, was the best and most heartwarming part of the whole interview..!

i hope they can sort out his passport issue in timely manner and get our man DennisDaMenace in da mix of TM's WC-hopefuls..!!

seems that he was in contact with his aunt two days ago and the aunt still said his grandfather's documents were still missing

for the fifa eligibility rules that is gonna be key without that we have no hope

if you look at ottis khan who played for the pakistani national football team he was called up with only one pakistani grandfather who passed - similar situation to eckert- he was actually suspended while playing for the pakistan team because there was missing documentation related to his grandfather. it was resolved in the end though

we got a long way to go but similar situations have resulted in success

41:10 - he was first contacted by an iranian agent when he was playing in spain for la liga but he rejected it to focus on his career

beitashour was first contacted three years before his call up but the documentation never got resolved until right before the world cup

the issue seems to be his father getting a passport and the proof that his grandfather is born in iran- if they can't sort that out then it will probably never happen.

he also got an enquiry by TM staff during his time by Celta but he declined it - showed that he was most likely holding for germany or spain at that time - similar to Beitashour ( who got called up by US and said he wanted to play for the US ) and Hageswa ( who was called up once by japan)

Seems like he sees it as a last ditch opportunity to play in the world cup - makes sense one good perforamance there and he will probably be able to get a nice payday in the middle east perhaps

Thanks to gol bezan for a very good interview and getting a lot of the pressing questions answered most of us had, well done as always.

After watching the interview I have to say I am skeptical on if and how he would fit in….he comes off as very, very proper and professional and we know the environment in TM is anything but that. That’s not a fault of his obviously, it’s good he is that way and I wish TM had more guys with a mentality like his but I have a feeling one TM camp experience would be a shock to him.

his interest in TM seems quite minimal…Arya and Sina had to ask him the same question in 3 different ways to try and get him to say “yes, I want to play/have a desire to play for Iran” and it didn’t come off as a language barrier problem as he is clearly very fluent in English. I didn’t expect him to be jumping up and down and say it was always his biggest dream to rep TM (given he very reasonably probably dreamed of repping Spain or Germany given he is way closer to those nationalities and those are bigger teams) but his responses were underwhelming IMO. Every other dual national that got called up was extremely excited about the idea itself in their interviews and I just didn’t get that from him here. He couldn’t even remember the name of the TM assistant he spoke with…..

Also I know that the responsibility is more on the federation than it is on him to help get the paperwork and all that sorted but he makes himself sound much helpless than he actually is….if he/his agent does not follow up on things to make sure there is regularly progress on things he will be lucky to get everything sorted before the WC in 2026.

despite my skeptical sentiment I still personally want him called up….it can only benefit us to try out a guy with his experience and caliber and in the best case scenario if he likes the squad and likes how he fits in and the staff is happy with him then it’s obviously worth it.

Also the whole aunt thing confuses me (I wish it would have been clarified)…..if his aunt is this big famous Iranian actress but his dad is barely Iranian, how does that work? Is it his half aunt or something? Or is she actually his grandfathers sister?

i guess another issue is his dad needs to get a passport first ? so they need to sort that out too which seems extra trouble some

the fact that he did two interviews shows he's at least interested - i think its out of his control though he seems to have little family besides his aunt in iran that can help secure his citizenship - i guess its all on her if she can sort out the documentation that his grandfather was born in Iran.

seems very professional- reminds of Beitashour in that sense- more european/ americans in team melli the better imo .
