After watching the interview I have to say I am skeptical on if and how he would fit inā€¦.he comes off as very, very proper and professional and we know the environment in TM is anything but that. Thatā€™s not a fault of his obviously, itā€™s good he is that way and I wish TM had more guys with a mentality like his but I have a feeling one TM camp experience would be a shock to him.

his interest in TM seems quite minimalā€¦Arya and Sina had to ask him the same question in 3 different ways to try and get him to say ā€œyes, I want to play/have a desire to play for Iranā€ and it didnā€™t come off as a language barrier problem as he is clearly very fluent in English. I didnā€™t expect him to be jumping up and down and say it was always his biggest dream to rep TM (given he very reasonably probably dreamed of repping Spain or Germany given he is way closer to those nationalities and those are bigger teams) but his responses were underwhelming IMO. Every other dual national that got called up was extremely excited about the idea itself in their interviews and I just didnā€™t get that from him here. He couldnā€™t even remember the name of the TM assistant he spoke withā€¦..

Also I know that the responsibility is more on the federation than it is on him to help get the paperwork and all that sorted but he makes himself sound much helpless than he actually isā€¦.if he/his agent does not follow up on things to make sure there is regularly progress on things he will be lucky to get everything sorted before the WC in 2026.

despite my skeptical sentiment I still personally want him called upā€¦.it can only benefit us to try out a guy with his experience and caliber and in the best case scenario if he likes the squad and likes how he fits in and the staff is happy with him then itā€™s obviously worth it.
    ā€‹ā€‹ā€‹ā€‹ā€‹

Also the whole aunt thing confuses me (I wish it would have been clarified)ā€¦..if his aunt is this big famous Iranian actress but his dad is barely Iranian, how does that work? Is it his half aunt or something? Or is she actually his grandfathers sister?ā€‹

Seems like he should link up with Dejaga and Zandi just to at least get their experience and perspective. It feels a bit like heā€™s trying to invent the wheel from scratch, where the other former transfers can help in many areas. Plus he has his aunt as the inside help. Should be easy to pull of IF he/GN/IFF all want it to happen.

I don't think this is as much a problem of getting his passport. To me it sounds like GN/IFF are just not really urgent about it, and its more of a side project for Saeed Alhoei lol. Feels like this thing could be solved overnight if someone in federation made a few phone calls.

I really think itā€™sa case of there not being an urgency to cap him since GN seemingly hasn't even tried meet him through zoom or something lol, only his assistants. Smells like a case of laziness/being wishy washy
Well as per twitter the example we have of Dennis Eckert is Ottis Khan of the Pakistan national football team - he was born in the uk with only one Pakistani grandparent who died 10 years before his call up - he was able to play but there were alot of documentation issues

as long as thereā€™s documents in Iran that shows his grandfather is born in Iran then fifa should have no issues - it seems his aunt has been more proactive than the federation judging by his interviews

His dad seems cool with him representing Iran though itā€™s not a hageswa situation where the mother didnā€™t want him to get Iranian nationality

but yeah the coaching staff just arenā€™t proactive - Querioz flew to Japan just to convince hageswa to switch nationalities

Here it seems the assistant managers are enquiring about his passport status and thatā€™s about it - definitely a lot harder situation than davari , beitashour and hageswa .

Iā€™m just gonna tell myself the following to not lose hope:

the varzesh 3 article is correct and TM is working behind the scenes quietly and has fixed his passport issues. They have not told eckert yet but his passport problem will 100% be fixed soon and he will be invited in March.

    This is my hopeium

Yeah the issue is the naturalisation laws in Iran are different. You can't just be given an Iranian passport the way they do in Qatar or Hong Kong for example. And FIFA are getting stricter on this stuff now.

Regarding the Iran call-up rumours for Eckert.
No, he hasn't been called up. The last contact was a few months ago when he was still an Union player with assistant coach Saeid Alhoei. They were contacting him regarding his eligibility. He isn't eligible for Iran. Nor he or his dad have an Iranian passport. It's a very difficult process as his grandfather has passed away to prove his Iranian-ness to FIFA.

Yes he'd love to play for Iran but he hasn't heard from them since.

TLDR for those that don't have much time:

    - He has been contacted by national team several times
    - He aunt is Anahita Dargahi (the famous actor)
    - His aunt is working with the NT to get him his passport but its difficult because they require documents from his grandfathers side (he is deceased)
    - As of this moment he HAS NOT BEEN CALLED UP, but if the passport situation can be fixed and they do call him up, he would love to play for TM (in his words: it would be an honor)
    - His Iranian food is tadig (lol)
