Any Greek source on the Olympiakos rumor? Can't find with Google search.

It’s a miscommunication. All those clubs have the same ownership, but only Rio Ave wants him.

This is what happens when your footballing culture emphasises developing youth.

Not only they plan and invest in their u-17 and u-23 teams, their main national team managers actually invite and play young players which gives them exposure instead of saying shit like "the national team is not the place to develop players". Same goes for Japan and Korea.

The other factor is that their club football isn't retarded like ours where players were bums like Beiro and Alkasir make more money than god. Our players have very little incentive to league Iran and work their way up in lower European clubs.

Last but not least: sanctions. Many foreign clubs simply don't want to deal with the headache which comes with doing business with Iranians, send scouts to Iran, etc...

Agree, another difference is that Uzbekistan choke constantly on senior level while we have some success : qualifications to wc and win against Morocco, wales on world cup, semi final of AC after beating the superfavorite, legionnaires scoring against big teams in UCL, final of ACL with PP..

These relative success make us very conservative with young players.

I also wonder if there isn't some parti bazi on selection of players, starting with young level academy and then club level.

there is definitely bias and corruption at youth level, but the exceptionally good do get noticed.

The big gap is the development and experience they need between ages 16-19.

Some? Lol I can spot the parti players after 5 minutes of watching ipl match. you think 25 year old who still can’t control a pass was anything special at 16 or 17 years? Like USA the best pure iranian talents probably fell or are falling through the cracks. Taremi is an example of one who made it and is one or two levels above Azmoun who had existing connection in sport through his daddy.

Ezatolahi is another parti player who’s name is already on the list before they give it to coach. Big parti player who never achieved anything on football field. I never heard of any other player dad on committee to vote to fire national team coach. Crazy stuff.

Ezatollahi's fall since 2018 can be studed for generations, he is one of biggest fraud in TM history IMO. I love him and his qualities going forward but if one were to analyze all the goals we conceded in last 2 years, I can bet my paycheck that he had a cause in a good amount of them.

Either through being too slow to run back, too slow to cover for wings, causing deflection own goals (Palestine, Qatar), penalties, or sometimes being too scared to cover someone during set pieces (pretty much all recent games).

Not to say other TM players aren't also at fault for a lot of our problems either lol, Eza is still better than most but it's crazy how we've become reliant on a CDM who is benched in UAE half the time and has 1 goal for TM in almost 80 caps

But uzbek youth success doesn't translate on senior level (it is starting now). Quite our opposite

We haven’t developed any decent talent in almost decade also!
