We had same political situation when we had so many players in bundesliga in late 90s/ early 2000s. So many you have to really sit and think to remember all of them. Rasul khatibi, andranik’s brother… Our players today just aren’t good enough. We are watching for 3.5 consecutive seasons our two best players struggle in germany and italy.
btw i’m not worried about city, if taremi or azmoun don’t score for third time against khusanov its us who is badbakht.
Economic situation and world standing in late 90s compared to now is night and day.

Club wise we are in definitely a worst situation now than we have ever been in 2 years. Pretty much only Taremi is playing high level football, rest of our players is scattered in awful sunday leagues. BUT I will say this TM is probably the best iteration of TM since 2006. Before this group of players who are on their way out we never made it 3 consecutive world cups in a row so easily.
Beating Bahrain and Kuwait used to be harder than beating Japan for us for those who remember lol

We are nowhere near the same political situation in the 1990s. No one had said anything as an Iranian president regarding the Holocaust, no war on terror, no Bush, no US sailors kidnapped, no proxy wars with Israel/US, nothing like that.
The market is also far different and other Asian countries who are easier to access now than the 1990s to ship out players.
Reminder that Japan was cholagh in football until the 1990s anyway.
I'm not saying we dont have room for growth and we definitely have stagnated, but the comparisons are not as simple as you want them to be.
