I personally have felt massive prejudice against me by having a persian/arab name.
it's like a wall and it's funny but sad .
When meet a new person everything is great until the name exchange and then A WALL DROPS
the second they hear the persian/arab name.
Then conversation pivots 180 degree .
i know i have a better life if i change my name , BUT I REFUSE.
so I don't blame the parents by doing that.

This was me when I was a kid...my mom wanted to name me Nima, but my grandma kept trying to make it "Mohammad Nima" . My mom was telling everyone to f*ck off

I was originally named Yahya by my mom, then my grand pa comes to hospital to visit and he named me saeed after hanging out with me for 10 minutes.....only person has ever called me Yahya has been my mom.

Honestly a lot of western names sx but as they are a lot and western dominate the world and soft power, people think they are nice. Iranians immigrants bowing out to westerners with changing name or not transmitting Persian to their children is the same mistake.

I am curious if iranians in europe also give themselves names from the country they live in? Like gustav hosseini or something?
