So I just don't understand why Khakpour was selected out of all people.
I am no GN fan at all, in fact I do not wish him near any national team, on a same token I am still clueless under what circumstances and merit criteria Khakpour was selected as U-23 Coach. What is his credentials? Almost nothing a local soccer school in OC, California, and then I believe a short-time Steel Azin coaching? Or am I missing something?

Someone like Mansourian or Golmo or a qualified foreign coach would have better suited the team. Don't even get me started with Mayeli Kohan as part of this team... [emoji849][emoji327][emoji330]

As soon as Khakpour is out and Mansourian is out of contract with Naft, they need to get Mansourian back on board.

I swear, if Kamyabinia wasn't ineligible and we didn't get punished for London 2012, you never know what the Omid team could've done..

But the past is finished and today is the day. Today is the day to stay focused and use what we have. Let's do our best which I'm sure we'll do and get ourselves to Rio.

Qualification to Rio 2016 is a huge huge motivational boost for the senior Team Melli to qualify to
Russia 2018. Good fortune to our boys!

I fully agree Keano jan. They could've even play a couple of friendlies against the strongest teams in the region. Like Sanat Naft, or Esteghlal Khouzestan/Ahvaz.

@ the time of Khakpoor's hiring, Omid TM was in TOTAL disarray and instability and perhaps was coming off some of the WORST performances and results in the history of Iranian football..!

IFF did actively seek the services of many other more experienced and higher caliber Domestic and Foreigner coaches for the TM u22, but None was willing to do take on the seemingly insurmountable task and especially so for the embarrassingly-meager offered initial-salary..!!

in stepped rookie coach KP, after many turn down the offer (including but not limited to Mansurian, GolMo? EZ..? etc.!! ask St. Mark for details ..!) and TBH, the job he has done with our kids and his results and accomplishments with them in such a short time has been Nothing short of Brilliant..!! so he was recently offered a more lucrative coaching contract from IFF after winning the WAFF Tourney with the U22 and then resorting to the typical irani quitting antics and those ghar kardany and adaa atfaraye irani..!

KP certainly doesnt yet have the coaching resume and tactical qualifications to be in charge of such a large task, but Considering all job's limitations and IFF's capabilities He sure is the best option for this Olympic qualification, especially so this late in the game..!!

Why does everyone keep saying Khakpour is on a poor salary?

As St.Mark reported earlier, he is getting paid $15,000 a month. Now for some nobody coach that has only managed steel azin and has no coaching badges, that is quite a lot of money.

I'm still shocked at how much Ali Daei is making as a coach!.

Azmoun and ezatolahi should have no problem joining the team since the Russian league is in a long break

Khakpour will most likely travel to the Netherlands to try to convince AZ to release Jahanbakhsh

Kashani also mentions that the friendly against Vietnam on January 4th 2016 is confirmed will take place in Dubai. TM Omid will play either against Turkmenistan or Kyrgyzstan in the Bandar Abbas camp next week.

Can't help but to be excited about this tournament in January!.

After 40 years and 9 Olympics later, can we finally qualify again?

We have three european legionnaires - the most we have ever had in the Team Omid squad.

BTW, great to hear AJ actually wants to play for Team Omid, even though he is trying to cement his position with AZ.

that a good move, i mean iff can send a letter, but if the head coach goes, might be better ,since khapour speak good english and have good manners and presentable, lets hope he can convince them, we need him, he is the captain

I am more concern about Azmoun and Ezzatollahi to join U23 than JB, we need these two guys more than JB, U23 has enough offensive wingers.
