Yeah exactly this..do you have specific reasons to explain why you are convinced the quality of football in Russia is better than the Netherlands? I have seen you saying this couple times but still no explanation. I think the Dutch league is head and shoulders above the Russian one simply because Russia bought quality with money. Money almost buys you everything, while Dutch clubs always tried to maximize their potential with very professional management, structure, organization and the small budget they have, also the talents thye got. And yet, Dutch clubs are relatively more successful seeing the results on international stage from the past 10/15 years and restrictions they have like not being able to spend big. The Russian league is still quite weak considering what caliber of players they have walking in their league!

I just said that I believe that the Russian league is stronger than Eredivisie, I base it on the performances CSKA Moskva and Zenit etc, while we compare these to Ajax. Zenit killed Benfica (or was it Porto?) on their home turf this Champions league. And those Portuguese clubs are no joke

Kiarash jan, you are bringing up statements that I have not made. No one is saying that the Russian league is maximizing their potential considering the players they have etc.. I just said that I believe that the Russian league is stronger than Eredivisie, I base it on the performances CSKA Moskva and Zenit etc, while we compare these to Ajax. Well, Dutch clubs also got decent results. Ajax beat Barcelona 2-1 last CL edition and PSV nearly eliminated AC Milan in 2005 semi final of CL, just lost on away goals. They made the R16 and QF of the CL couple of times after that and you also have AZ which usually does quite well in the EL.

Sorry but this is just pure bollocks. The Dutch league breaths talent, every season players transfer to top teams in big leagues elsewhere in Europe. Top players like Ibrahimovic, van Bommel, van der Vaart, Romario etc all have been produced by the Eredivisie. Foreign scouts are always watching this league closely..Russian League is built on money only, their stadiums are not even half full during games and there is not even a real football culture. Now tell me the Russian League is superior to Eredivisie? In terms of being big spenders of course, but Dutch clubs aren't billionaires. Yet they achieve more than Russian clubs.

But considering what you said is coming from an USA based member, I'm not surprised about the lack of knowledge of Dutch football.

My football knowledge is based on my watching of many different leagues, whether it be the EPL, Bundesliga, La Liga etc. Accordingly, I have played under some of the greatest coaches in Southern California, while you yourself have mentioned you were never a footballer prior. This is without a doubt a great indicator of your lack of football knowledge. I don't care that you live in Europe, but that should not even be a single claim in your argument, i.e. my residence in the States.

This is without a doubt a great indicator of your lack of football knowledge. I don't care that you live in Europe, but that should not even be a single claim in your argument, i.e. my residence in the States.

And btw, I have been watching the Eredivisie since I was 12 or so, whether you like it or not I do have knowledge about this league, at least more than some American based member who mostly knows the Eredivisie thanks to PSV, Ajax and Feyenoord.

It all falls to preference. For some reason, these arguments always degenerate to comparing doodools based on football knowledge. To be honest, all of us on this board must watch a decent amount of football to even be members of a football forum, but there are arguments like we have Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola visiting our site. I don't give much clout to either of your opinions, because they are your opinions. There is no right answer, and bickering like this, while a good way to waste time, is counterproductive and unnecessary.

My OPINION on this topic would be in the middle of both of yours. Namely the top Russian teams are stronger than the top Dutch teams, BUT the lower teams and leagues of the dutch are stronger than those of the Russians.

That's just my opinion based on my amateur observation though. Nobody has to agree with me.

I think it's very reasonable to assume that older leagues such as the Eredivisie are significantly more stable than a newer league such as the Russian league. The more established a league is, the longer it's teams/franchises have been around and thus teams would be more well balanced. Other leagues such as ours and the Russian league have a lot of teams with 2-3 financially well-off ones.

I think it's a fine statement to say that the Russian league has some powerhouses of its own, like Zenit or CSKA. When it comes down to which team is stronger than another it always boils down to opinion, no matter what league. Barcelona can beat Chelsea one day, and on another day Chelsea would win. Same thing in this scenario in my opinion.


At the end of the day, we should all come together and celebrate Sardar removing his Instagram profile. Hopefully a PR agent will give him some lessons soon and we'll get to see a more "professional" side of him!

I don't want to get into the discussion of which league is the better one, but let's put it this way:

Historically Dutch clubs have been much much better, but the Russians are catching up, or may have even overthrown the Dutch league, mainly due to their recent (last decade) big investments in football.

It's very hard to compare the Dutch and the Russian league because the money that goes around in the Russian teams is uncomparable to what the Dutch clubs use, who have to do mainly with home grown talent. You will rarely see big transfers or really high salaries in the Dutch league. For example, the biggest transfer of the season was that of Luuk de Jong's to PSV and that was only 5-6 million I believe. Now compare that to what some of the Russian clubs are spending yearly...
