Steven Beitashour @ Vancouver Whitecaps | 2014-2015 - NEW
Tbh I had to replay the 2nd penalty like 5 times to find out which one was Beitashour, since I saw nothing from anyone which could be a foul resulting in a PK.
Neither were really penalties. The first was outside of the box and the guy sort of flopped, and the second was the most laughable call ever in a skirmish inside of the box during a corner kick. Also, his team won and he had an awesome assist, so it's probably deserved.
i know. Neither should've been a penalty but on paper it still does say he caused 2 penalties so it's surprising that he made the team of the week. His assist was very nice though
If so, get rid of Khosro and replace him Esteve CQ!

Beita plays Heydari's old position of RB. Ghafouri is currently in that spot, and is pretty good there, even if he wasn't the best player against Turkmenistan.
Heydari, like Hajsafi has become a bit of a utility player, playing RM, CM, and even CAM at times, but those positions take a lot of stamina and vision. Heydari is still in TM, because the guy can run for days. He has a great tank of gas, very similar to Andranik. The problem is, that I think that in the last year or two, his tactical awareness and vision of the game has dropped. I compare him to what happened with Pejman Nouri in TM about 4 years ago. Nouri was a guy like Heydari who could run for days, but also had a great ball distributing capability. In the end though, both Nouri and Heydari lost a bit of their ability to read the game it seems.
Heydari isn't trash and can have his place in TM, especially as a veteran substitute, but the guy shouldn't play 90 minutes anymore, in my opinion. Same with Masoud. If anything, I would move Azmoun back to CF and make Gucci the ST from the start. We don't have a true playmaker, but Sardar is actually really creative with the ball, and can hold the ball. Gucci is a poacher, and needs someone to give him good passes. Nobody was doing that against Turkmenistan.
I honestly wouldn't mind CQ trying Beita at LB, since we are lacking a true defender in the position. Hajsafi is a great midfielder, but I always have felt that he tracks too far forward when he plays LB. I prefer him in more of an attacking role. I remember Beita said something before WC about CQ trying him out at LB, and that he felt capable of playing that position. I would honestly suggest this team in August if we have a friendly.
it be cool to give him another try at next tm camp, this time as a LBack, see if he can cut it there..?
we are really soorakh there currently in TM..
He is 28....I'd say he has a solid 5-6 good years left in him, potentially maybe a tad more than that.
I think everything afat said is very true......with beitashour being comfortable playing as a LB we have no reason to not give him a shot with the way he is playing right now and given our situation. id like to see what CQ thinks comparing him to other fullbacks like rezaeian for example. i really am puzzled as to why CQ has not called him up and will be even more surprised if he isnt in the next TM list after hajsafi's two woeful performances in that position.

Steven Beitashour @ Vancouver Whitecaps | 2014-2015 - NEW
Beitashour can't track back to defend..the first penalty he gave up was a classic example of how he gives the opponent way too much space, does not dare to get in duel and finally makes a stupid foul. This one reminded me a lot of the Lebanon away game where he did the same thing.
CQ is a very defensive coach..these type of players do not fit in his plans despite the fact that Beitashour is good in the offensive part of the game like crosses and giving nice assists.

Kiarash jan, at the moment, our choices of experienced wingbacks who do track back onto defense isn't great. Pooladi could do it, but he is gone. Hajsafi is a midfielder and is wasted at that position. Finally, we saw how dangerous it is to play the completely new guys without a great deal of match praxis. Putting on the TM shirt is intimidating for an 18-22 year old. I would use friendlies and substitute appearances to slowly transition people in.
Beita is a wingback, through and through. Dejagah is also great at tracking back to help the defense, which is why I put him on the left. I believe Ashkan is most dangerous from that side, as we saw the goals he scored in Fulham and almost scored against Argentina.
In my mind, Steven would be a temporary fix to our bigger left back problem, but I trust his experience and ability to defend in these upcoming important matches than the guys who are newly professionals. I think throwing these guys in the fire at this point is having negative consequences. Let them be substitutes for Steve if we are beating Guam. That will be a good opportunity for a youngster to learn in a less intimidating situation than starting a WCQ.
Steve isn't great, especially at LB, but I don't see many wingbacks with his amount of experience and capability currently in Iran. Yes, he's made defensive lapses, but I've also seen more than a few games where he's too notch defensively. I think it depends on the coach's tactics. I'm sure if CQ tells him to stay back and defend, he will. With Ashkan helping him out, I think our left flank will be a strength instead of a weakness.

now i dont know where you got this whole beita is not a great defender but a better offensive player? if ur getting that assumption from the 2 TM games he was apart of and the 4 minute highlight video from the NY match ...then i would suggest you stream his games! because you could not be more wrong !

My issue is, nobody has seen Beita play LB. I was just going off what he said in one interview about feeling comfortable playing it. He never actually got played there, so it may not have worked for CQ. I will say that I personally don't feel comfortable with Hajsafi or a new guy starting in LB against Guam. I support CQ's decisions, but I hope that he will make a tactically smart decision. If Beitashour can even do it is a big ? I think defensively he is good on RB. LB though remains to be seen and I was just suggesting this. It's very possible that CQ could find a LB gem in the next camp. I'm just saying to invite Beita and try it out. We may be surprised, or he may suck. We never know until we try.

oh no i have no problem with him as LB! sure its a risk, will cq take that risk? most likely not.
what i was refereeing to is Kiarash saying he isnt a good defender and is a better offensive player. whoever that has seen more than 2 games of him would know that thats not true. you dont get selected as the best right back of MLS if you are not a good defender..you dont play in thr MLS all star game against chelsea if you arent a good defender..?
also Afat jan, just fyi steven started out playing soccer as a centeral midfielder. he is pretty versatile . can play LB, RB and in the midfield. he is just like khosro to be honest.
a Major turn-off about Esteeve's Defending is that he gives his markers WAAAY TOO MUCH SPACE to work with ..! he needs to be a lot more combative and in your face on D and still have plenty of gas in tank (& pace, which he has little) to run up wing to also contribute offensively, in order to play any sort of WingBack position for CQ ..!
ive never seen him play LB before..!! cant really say, i have high hopes that he could the solution to our LB problems either, just saying it certainly wouldnt hurt to give the guy another invite to the next camp,(for next friendly and pre cuts to final roster for next WCQ) especially since all the bs paperwork and formalities of getting him into TM is already done and he is somewhat familiar with overall CQ TM Playing tactics..!
I can't believe you guys are wondering whether Esteevie can defend (Left, right, center, one legged, injured, dead, etc. ) against a bunch of players from varsity teams, US 3rd division and a supermarket chain - not to mention a few that weren't even good enough to make it to the supermarket team!
Joking aside, their latest squad has 2 players from the 2nd division US (NASL) and the rest are either playing in 3rd division US (USL), varsity teams or worse yet Guam's domestic league or for no one at all.
A bottom team from the Azadegan league, like Shardari Tabriz with the mighty Azizi as coach should be able to demolish these guys with no problems.

Just like how we were going to demolish Turkmenistan?
