Esteghlal vs Naft, Beiranvand performance and Esteghlal's play

I just watched the highlights of the game and have noticed that Esteghlal (the league leaders) played terrible football with lots of long balls and long distance shots while Naft had a couple of passages where they had really nice runs and passing.

In particular Beiranvand had some very very nice saves and reflexes.

I'd be interested to know your thoughts on Esteghlal's tactics and game. Do they usually play this terribly or was this a one off?

P.S the video is from youtube and from IPL so I am assuming that there are no copyright issues.

Beiranvand kind of reminds me of Thibaut Courtois. they are both 22 years old, both are tall and lanky (Both of them are 6 ft 6 in) and have nice reflexes.

Beiranvand is surely TM material, I hope he replaces Ahmadi in TM when he retires.

Yeah he for sure needs to be called up. I particularly thought that save he made where he pushed the ball over the bar from that reflex save was quiet impressive.

Bei has three shut-outs now and the one yesterday was particularly well earned with that free kick coming back off the post at the end of the game with a great save on the rebound.

He's another one of those players where I just don't understand why he's not accompanying our U-22 team in the Asian Games for some international experience.

            2 reasons:

1- ( i answerd that in your Amir Arsalan post) .Base on a compromise agreement between Vingada and League Org , only 2 players from each IPL team will be picked for U22 ( if 3 games could be delayed base on previous agreement ).
there were 5 Naft players Vingada was interested but only selected 2.one from U21 (Arash Rezavand FW & one from U23( Pouraliganji DM).

2- Original list were exclusively u21 players but later on at the request of OC they replaced 7 U23 players with younger one to beef up the team for Asian Incheon games. These 7 can not play for Olympic games later on.
He will be 22 years old next week and won't be able to play for Olympic team later on. Vingada invited a very good young Keeper Akhbari shad ( Saipa) who is a year younger and great keeper and his back up are GF Mohammad Nasseri and Mes Kerman Sedghi.
off all current 3 U22 keepers Akhbari is the best . Saw his last game vs Foulad. He was great and stopped a penalty.
*:Selecting Beiranvand for U22 would have been disruptive for Naft Club given the fact they have given up their best starting DM pouraliganji.
**: vinganda said ( reported) 7 older players were selected with consultation with CQ.

Esteghlal has played the best football this year by far compared to any team. And they are not even full strength yet. Naft defended in large numbers for most of the game but even then Esteghlal hit the post 3 times. Naft's goals were due to individual mistakes and not a result of overall faults in team tactics. Sadeghi had a very bad game coming back from injury.

                Thanks.

It may be that the highlights are misleading. They hit the post but not from any particularly good plays. I hope that they play better (not because I am a fan but they are one of the better IPL teams and reflect our league).

Incredible the amount of long shots by iranian teams!! It shows that they have so few ideas to build a chance to score.

not when he retires but for this upcoming Asian Cup! I have not been impressed with Ahmadi at all this season, and Beiranvand has outplayed him by a mile! IMO the best iranian goalkeeper in the league and deserves a TM callup ASAP!

Not to burst any bubbles, but Tractor Sazi has by far been the best team of the season. They have the most points, most goals scored, best goal differential, and the list goes on and on.....

I don't think anyone is under the impression that Esteghlal is the best team in IPL (up for debate I guess), just that they are the league leaders and it would be a real shame if the team coming first can't play good football.

I personally have no overwhelming feelings for any team but I'd have to say from the little IPL that ive seen, Sepahan is my favourite.

Edit: Just realised tractor has overtaken SS. my bad .

and the list goes on and on?..you pretty much summed it up in your second sentence and that's about it to this point of the young season,... on the paper....
still a long way to go, we'll see..

Of course, anything can happen. I personally don't think Khatibi can manage this streak for that long.

It's only due to this very last round (Traktor won big and Esteghlal lost by 2) that Traktor has taken over in number of goals scored, better goal-difference etc. Until a few days ago it was Esteghlal which had all those stats in their favor.

                              Esteghlal for life!!
