An update on our Iran women's national under-20 football team.
I notice that they have been participating in several youth tournaments around the world. In September 2017 they took part in the CFA Women's Youth Tournament in China. This tournament consisted of just 4 teams: USA, Japan, China and Iran.
Iran women's U20 team results were as follows:
Iran 0 - 8 China PR
Iran 1 - 5 Japan
Iran 0 - 5 USA
Let's not forget that these are the best women teams of the world. So I would say we did a great job, not only result wise, but also by participating in such a worthy tournament.
A couple years ago this team was losing by double digits scores against such teams (e.g. Iran 0 - 13 South Korea), so looking at these more recent results, it appears that Iranian women's youth teams are improving at football.
----
A few months ago Iran women's U-20 team participated in yet another youth tournament, this time in Russia. This tournament also consisted of just 4 teams, namely Russia, Romania, North Korea and Iran.
Iran women's U20 team results were as follows:
Iran 0 - 2 Russia
Iran 0 - 3 North Korea
Iran 2 - 1 Romania
North Korea women's U-20 team won the FIFA World Cup in 2016. They are the current world champions. And we played against them in this tournament, losing 0-3. A few years earlier, we lost to them 0-9.
The only conclusion that one could draw from this is that the gap is closing and perhaps in the not so distant future (sooner than some might think) we could get results against some of the best teams in the world. At this point it may seem impossible to some for Iran's women football to achieve that result, but I believe it is going to happen sooner than people think.
And these kinds of tournaments that we participate in, which gives us a chance to play against the best teams, is exactly what our youth must get exposed to.
---
Our U-20 women's team is going to take part in the 2019 AFC U-19 Women's Championship Qualification, which is later this year, in October. We will play against Laos, Palestine and finally Myanmar.
I look forward to this, and will definitely bump this thread again by that time. Until then, let's keep our heads high and be proud of the inevitable rise of Iranian women's team.
