We had this thread in the old fourm which is read only now.
Let's not forget, Heydari was so bad, that CQ, who rarely makes changes, took him out of the starting line up for the final two matches after his performance against Nigeria. He was the only player to lose his starting spot on our squad.
My problem with Heydari has always been three things:
1. He's slow
2. Weak on Defense
3. Predictable.
1. Even during qualifiers he was beaten time and time again by Qatari players on the wing. I even made a thread about his speed before the WC. Here are two videos:
2. He is not a good defender and gets constantly beat on the wing. This mainly has to do with his speed and stamina. What is the point of constantly running and wearing yourself out?
3. In the IPL he is known for his crosses. But the difference is, in the IPL he has time, space and energy to cross. In the WC we saw how poor his crosses were. He is very predictable, a one-trick pony. He runs down the wing and when he gets to the top of the box he crosses. This may work in the IPL, but it failed in the WC. He was unable to adapt and change his game. Unlike Montazeri, who saw opportunities and made beautiful crosses from even the halfway line, Heydari just kept repeating the same thing over and over. For example, just look at the difference between these two crosses:
Montazeri sees the space and makes a cross that creates a great scoring opportunity. Heydari ignores the space Gucci has, even though he is waving his hands, and does the same thing he always does... runs to the top of the box and crosses it. Montazeri had a good number of crosses like that and Heydari has a good number of mistakes similar. Not to mention he lost the ball time and time again when under pressure.
