I just finished analyzing the second half. My focus was on our new players.
They all did well today. But the one Who impressed me the most was Azmoun.
What a physiqe what a pace he is the key to the lock he is the bridge and the anchor for our halfbacks so that they can fill in on the offense. He reminded me of Zlatans role in Psg and Sweden.

I'm fine with our team playing defensively. It WORKS. It worked against Argentina, it worked against Nigeria, and its worked against the Koreans on countless occasions.
What I'm NOT fine with is a lackluster performance from 85% of our squad. I think there were maybe 3 complete passes in that entire game. Players were crossing when they
shouldnt be, players were crossing in horrendous ways, players were tripping over themselves. Nothing about our style of play was smooth. However, i can attribute less of this to CQ
tactics. There were players in the right spaces, and movement/positioning was disciplined. The football hadn't warmed up on any of their feet. But hey, what do you expect when our federation only
manages to organize a friendly once every winter solstice.

Korean finishing was disastrous. If we had given australia or japan such open spaces and opportunities, i promise you we'd have conceded from the get-go. But, that is a KOREAN shortcoming,
and nothing more. From the way i see things, we simply need more friendly so as to prepare more effectively.

Also, disgraceful acts on both sides for turning this friendly into a scene out of Fight Club.
        Very well said.

This is good. This BS culture in our football (and society) where people just make BS accusations against each other b/c they feel like it or they think they are above the law should be dealt with. Now with Mayeli going to jail and now this Nekounam thing, I hope others get the message. Don't open your mouth and spread lies.
How do you know they were baseless?

Because, Moosavi already came out and said that it was not true. I guess that's what the courts are for. No more giving interviews and running away. From now on you have to face the music. I like it that way. Less BS in our football.

If you want less BS in our football, the first person to eliminate is Ghalenoei, in my opinion.

Respectable effort today. Neither Iran nor South Korea played very well and I want to believe that it was Iran that made South Korea play bad . I do not like Quieroz tactics but it seems to work and as long as he is our coach , he will probably run with that tactic . I think he uses that tactic when he knows that we can not play offensively against better opposition. If we play offensively , we become vulnerable defensively and when we play defensively , we create nothing offensively. But as long as Iran does not let in goals then the defensive tactic works.

If you remember, we could not play a offensive football against Bosnia, our team simply did not have the quality . I trust that Quierozs tactic works , but he has to make some changes. Out with Shojaei and Heydari , thats the first two changes he should apply.

I think before they even entered the tunnel (that is in between all the fighting and cursing and shoving between the players and staffs of the two teams), the management was on the phone to their federation to arrange for a (revenge) friendly.

By the time they hit the showes, the federation had set up a few dates to fix the match up. And I think on their bus-ride home, the team was promised a re-match to calm their titis down.

Given how it affects them and how desperate they have shown in defeats, one feared another defeat might deal a very mortal blow to their psyche that makes it very hard to recover from. Imagine you lose. get frustrated and come back to regain your loss and then lose some more. worst thing to happen to gamblers. Never get so frustrated to know when to come back. Coz the subsequent loss would be that much more painful.

Finally the day arrived and although they really fell all over themselves claiming there is no "revenge" involved and this is just a "friendly" game, but the roster and recalling of so many of their legionnaires from europe and elsewhere betrayed these claims. Make no mistakes. They were out for blood and they needed it to sooth their hurt rear-ends.

And so the game starts and to my dismay, our coach sticks to his defensive line up and most probably defensive tactics. But when ensued in the next 60-70 minutes was still a surprise. Even to those of us who expected defensive tactics from him. If one didnt know the game was played in Iran and who the opponents were, the way we played gave the impression we were playing against the world champions, Germany in Munich!!!!!!

Given how we parked the bus and played as if we were playing the world champs, I cant really say a lot about this game. Except few incidents and issues that stood out for me. So dont expact any analysis or description of strategy here.

The Koreans dominated the midfield (and the pitch), passed the ball around with ease nd put us under pressure. and on a few occasions came very close to score goals that we were apared only on the last seconds by misdirected shots or sheer grit of our defenders who cleared balls (on the line) with their all.

It didnt take too long for Shojaei to remind us how abysmal and horrendous he has been in the past 2-3 years. tripping all over his feet and giving away the ball was very much expected as that has been his trade-mark since 2012. But this one almost cost us a goal! He went on for another 65-70 minutes of more error-ridden fumbles and foolish decisions, with the exception of one single good pass (which was the odity in the festival of silly mistakes).
When will he retire? I long for the day he does. Because we cant pin our hopes on CQ opening his eyes and making the logical decision of dropping him. I have given up hope CQ would bother with such trivialties as "logic and rationality".

RGN despite having a lackluster showing, showed why he is one of our best hopes for the Asia cup when he took a snap shot/volley off the Hajsafi cross that is seen only from the very best strikers in the world. Shame it didnt go in. But the volley OUGHT TO be appreciated by all. magnificent prsence of mind. Something that is missing in many of our players.

Jahanbakhsh also showed he has matured and is becoming a very deadly, quality attacking force. He has the brightest prospect among our youth players.
Dejagah also had flashes of his brilliant self. But the rust of playing in Persian gulf league does show. He simply has to move away from that b;ack hole.

Haghighi came up with a few very nice saves that really saved our blushes and CQ has to personally thank him for not exposing how poor we play football and how vulnerable we are ... despite mass defense and negative tactics.

With the exit of Shojaei around minute 60-65 and introduction of Azmoun and Rafiei we see a slightly more adventurous (no. it's more like "less defensive") team and the goal was a result of such a move. Nekounam's standard freekick was delivered and after hitting two posts, finally Azmoun dived in and scored over the keeper's hands.

                  Bedlam. Anger. Frustration. desperation.
friendly? F**k you. this was WAR.
..... well, at least for half of the individuals on the pitch.
The other half was just too bloody happy to have got a goal despyte playing so poorly and getting dominated from the get go.

Then I lost what little respect I had for Korean football. I had already lost much of it in the past couple of years. But fighting and quarelling in this manner after a friendly game was simply too childish and petulant to respect.

I am very concerned about the health of the Koread FA. and the gargantuan amount of frustration they are feeling at the moment. almost tragically funny. or comically tragic. cant decide which.
                  3 losses in a row?
                  Ouch that must really hurt
But play well, have more goal opportunities, dominate away .... and then LOSE?
                  Yikes.
Cant imagine the sheer devastation on the mind!!
there are so many things wrong with your post ...... so let's just take a few.

You are critical of this supposed "defensive minded" strategy, yet you ignore the fact that this same "defensive minded" approach, stopped and frustrated Nigeria and Argentina for 180 minutes. If not for the heroic efforts of Messi in the 91th minute, we would have stopped the 2nd best team in the world. Please take a few minutes and comprehend what I just said.

We stopped the 2nd best team in the world for 90 minutes.

Any team strategy that results in the bottom team in the WC, stopping the 2nd best team in the world, is a strategy that works. Plain and simple.

There is a big difference between playing a defensive game because your opponent is beating you down, versus, playing defensive as a strategy. Ghotbi played a defensive game against Korea in AC, and lost. No one can claim that he had a sound strategy in place to counter the koreans. It just wasn't there. Same with GN. He was defending because he was out coached and out maneuvered in the entire game.

On the point you made about the Koreans dominating us. The Koreans did not dominate the game, unless you believe that a game is only played on the offensive side of the pitch. You seem to believe the best strategy is for us to throw in 4 strikers and yell "bacheh hah hamleh konin" ....

Haghighi had a great game, but as usual, you make it into a negative point by saying that he covered up our player's weaknesses. So, all the great goalkeepers in the world, including the ones that played for championship teams just covered up for their team's low quality of play ???? You seem to not understand that the GK is part of 11 players, and if the GK has a great game, THE TEAM, has great game as well. A GK is not a separate entity. A GK's job is to make great saves and you can thank CQ for tossing out Rahmati and bringing in an obvious athlete in Haghighi with heart. Not one that is afraid to leave the post and grassrolls at the end of the games.

As we saw in the WC qualifying games, this team won when it mattered, and won under very tough conditions. 10 years from now, NO ONE cares if you could put together 6 passes only to fail at the end. At the end of the day, you look at the scoreboard, and that tells you the whole story.

                              First half:
Played like shit in the first half. Too defensive & let them dominate possession. Our level was completely lower because of the number of Arab league players we have and the fact that we have no infrastructure. No passing on the ground, no hustle, no support, & lucky not to concede a goal, which would've improved if we had scheduled more friendlies. Other teams know that we typically start matches slow and lazy. The only good part was our sharp and direct counter attacks.

                              Second half:
More of the same, but better defending. A bit of good team passing in the 75th minute. Great free kick from Nekounam, and Azmoun was lucky his goal wasn't called off for a foul. Some pathetic Arab-like time wasting at the end from Azmoun & Dejagah, who was our best player, as well as some poor sportsmanship after the final whistle from our team to top this topsy turvy match off.

                              Conclusion:
We need more friendlies & possibly 2 strikers up top! A lucky 1-0 isn't going to cut it!

                              S - E - C - U - L - A - R - I - S - M

how anyone can be pleased with this performance is beyond me. We played terribly and are missing the likes of khalatbari big time. The midfield in the first half was horrendous, not being able to check in, turn and release the ball at all. Ando especially was weak, and as much as I love this guy, he has let himself go big time. He is fat and slow, and can not turn or do much anymore. When Ebrahimi came in, everything in the middle got a lot better, but that is not saying much. Gucci is also a bit chubby now and not as good as he was when he first started for Iran. Look at him now, and when he debuted for TM against korea back in 2012. Tell me you don't see that he has really let himself go.
Lets face it, our tactics are the biggest problem. I like CQ, but we can do so much more then just sit back and let the other team play! God, we were playing at home for pete sake! To anyone who says that we high pressed, I'll ask where, and for how long? We just sat back and let these terrible TERRIBLE koreans play. These Koreans are shit guys, they are not good, but we made them look good. If we attacked and pressed them, they would have crumbled.
Haghighi was tremendous and is our undisputed #1. He is so confident its refreshing to see. Damesh garm for making such strides, I can see him be captain in a couple of years. Hajsafi too was great, such a versatile player he is. JB was pretty good, but he got no support from anyone.
I would like to see more of rafiei and ghafouri, but i could tell they were far superior to the players they replaced.
Shojaei is utter shit. no one should defend this guy when we have a man like khalatbari not on the roster. If we put KB as the attacking midfield, I could see us as a threat, but instead CQ has a crush on MAsoud.
All in all, I'm glad that we beat those koreans, but we made the task much harder then it should have been. Dame bacheha Iran garm.
